Eyebrows should, IMO, use the same texture that is selected for the hair. Reason: if the texture you're using for your hair isn't grayscale, chances are quite high that you're going to end up with eyebrows that are a vastly different color than your hair.

Now sometimes this can look very good -- and other times it just looks -wrong-.

Perhaps a checkmark on the eyebrow page to "use hair texture" would do the trick and keep everybody happy? =)

Eyebrows in general kind of bug me. There's no slider to adjust, say, eyebrow width, is there? Makes it hard to make a decent-looking male av without a unibrow. And yeah, texturing them would be nice, although it might be hard to ensure that the wrong part of a hair texture doesn't get used-- like ending up with a part in the center of each eyebrow.

Yeah, there's an eyebrow's page (subpage of hair, because the hair texture appears on the eyebrow page as well), but I don't recall a slider for width. Thickness, height, arch height, density and arch pointiness. I think that's all of them...

yup I requested nose to ear width awhile ago but no one (I think) ever commented on it. C'mon someone out there needs labrador-ish eyebrows ;)

Mis, I totally agree with you!! I was griping about this to Ama, but he didn't really understand... I think it matters more to people who shape their eyebrows IRL and want a certain look (read: a lot of women!) and those guys who love their unibrows... :D

Some people just have tiny eyebrows from birth. My dads always cracked me up, the older he gets the more he looks like a lab... hehe... love ya dad ;) (not that'd he'd ever read this :))

Interesting. I don't shape my eyebrows IRL.

I tend to be much more concerned about my avatar's appearance than about my (1st life) own. Oh I take care of myself, but I don't obsess, and things like eyebrow shape for my own self just never occur to me. Where my av is concerned, however... well, the eyebrows, for example. My eyebrows are purple (a light purple). My hair is... well, I'm not sure what color it is -- I used a golden texture and then the tint is the light purple that appears as my eyebrows. It looks... odd together. But I really like the hair color and shading effects that the texture provides.

Here's another loosely related example -- I was just telling Misnomer the other day that IRL I own exactly 3 pairs of shoes, and I can't remember the last time I wore any but the sneakers. And yet I was stressing out over the shoes my av was wearing (wrong style, made my feet look too big, etc.).

I guess what I'm saying is that I don't think it's going to be easy to lump people into categories... people who "X" IRL are more likely to "Y" in SL, and so on.

Pink fuzzy slippers... not so much. How about some tweetybird ones instead?

Don't forget the tattoo layer for custom eyebrows!
05-15-2003 12:21
The eyebrow sliders (hopefully) provide enough choices to meet the requirements of most lifers. But for those of you who want labrador eyebrows, or brows just like dad's, or an eyebrow color different from their hair, you can always create a custom brow applied as the "head tatoos" skin layer.

Just set the "eyebrow density" slider to 0 to get rid of the pre-fab brows, then apply the custom texture (with appropriate alpha channel) as the head tattoo. If you don't think you have the art skills to pull it off, I'm sure a few lindenbux will buy the brows of your dreams from an enterprising SLifer. (Who knows, there could even be an eyebrow emporium somewhere in world...)

To get your creative juices flowing, I've enclosed a screenshot of an AV with a few different quick and dirty custom eyebrows that took mere minutes to make in PS.

This is a great way to give your AV scars, zits, clown makeup, stitches... anything that the sliders don't provide.

Happy creating!
