Say I'm editing an object and whoops! instead of making it rotate by 180 i type 180 in the position Y field then it goes to my neighbour land into the hill i have no way to grab it back if my neighbour doesnt give me land edit rights or returns it to me.
So in the land options i'd like to see:
Primitives on parcel:
Owned by you: xx [Show] [Return]
The second wish is if someone (the target) is banned from a land or a sim i'd like to have all the target objects returned to his/her inventory. Land owners should not ban someone if they want to keep the target's items on their land anyway. And that would ease the problem of griefers dropping self-spawning items.

For the first problem, look at the mini map (you can zoom it one level) and your stuff will show up (lilac I think). Just manipulate the camera for a close look at it and you'll be able to edit it again to change the coords or just "take" it.
For the second case, in the objects tab of my land there is already separate counts of your own and others' objects so you can return all objects except your own.

Huh... you can't just '"take" it if it is stuck inside a hill or for many other reasons (inside another prim, no land access and so on). Not mentionning all those prims stacked at <0,0,0> on many sims.... Sometimes you don't even know where it is on the sim! If you have land rights then it s not an issue this suggestion was for the case you don't.

Enable debug mode and you'll be able to look underground or wherever.
You do not have to be on a parcel to carry out work on your objects that have strayed there.
Disable camera constraints and a whole different world will ope to you. Learn to use the control and alt keys with the left mouse button and you can find anything anywhere!
It is a bit tough to find things at 768 (512 + 256) meters, the max height for prims to move up via an edit, but just sit on a prim and edit it to go there.

I disagree, use of the Debug mode is reserved for advanced users, finding one's items back should be a basic feature of the user interface. Also looking into a sim from <0.0,0.0,0.0> to <250.0,250.0,768.0> would be extremely tedious, compared to simply click the land and check if you have any items there, even with a scanner. But thanks for the input it would solve the issue in many cases .

Enable debug, disable "limit select distance." Your objects will never leave your selection regardless of where you send them.

I did that and just sent 2 boxes to 700 height : the selection has been lost.

Not to argue against having a spiffy way to selectively find and edit or whack an object that runs away... But! The original question of how to fetch back an object that ends up underground, or in a neighbors house... Is easily handled using just the basic interface.
The select tool can normally find things, even in the ground.
Try this. Take a block and bury it. Then, while your selection dialog box is open, and the edit tool selected, simply draw a bounding box around your object. Hit Ctrl+3 to open an edit tool. I typically am lazy and just click on anything else, ground, object, anything, and select edit... Then make sure im on the Edit tab of the select tool and go hunting with the bounding box.
Yes, I know you cant see it... But unless your totally daffy, you must have a recollection of sorta kinda how big that object was. You can see the selection lines form as you drag your mouse across various objects anyhow. Does not matter how many objects are between you and the objects your selecting, so watch the bounding box and make sure you only select what your expecting to select.
You can control that thru the tools->select* options. Like if you bury an object into a neighbors house... You can fetch it back by using the Select Only My Objects. When you draw the bounding box around the area you thing your object is in, it will only select your object.
Works great on the ground, works great on a house, pretty much works the way its supposed to all the time... Cept... When you only want to select the bit in the front... But you can continue by using the debug mode to filter down your selection until you have what you wish.

Thank you for the input, though I keep thinking that a simpler way to retrieve your items wouldn't hurt, there are so many items littering the ground and slowing down the servers thus the sim performance, if all users could get their items back with just a couple click everybody would benefit from it.
The Debug Mode solutions are valid but too "vertical", an horizontal solution would be more ergonomic.
