Would the lindens PLEASE up the "40 meters linked" restriction? I recently spent a few hours trying to make a nice prefab house to sell, only to find out halfway through that it's too far apart to link as one piece... nevermind that the floorplan was only 10x20. I guess from corner to corner it was too big for a link or something.
This is really getting on my nerves. I can't make anything of decent size for prefabs because it just says "well golly gee, nope, objects too far apart".
I realize it's probably a limitation on the physics engine, but maybe make bigger-than-40-meter objects nonphysical?

You can link up to 40m? I couldn't link up 30m. I had to settle for around 20-25m before it would link. I want your building mojo! PS - I second this idea because I'd like to make some nice builds too that didnt come in multiple pieces.

someone told me that even if you can't link it all, you can select it all and save it together in a folder. I haven't tried it so I don't know if it works

I believe you can Shift+Select and then right click and select Take and it'll save it all as one object yet maintain its seperate properties. The name will be that of the last Shift+Selected object of course. I'm not sure if theres a distance restriction on that or not.
I haven't run into this problem yet, but I wouldn't mind having it incresed.

The distance apart that objects can be linked is related to the objects size. You can link two 10m3 cubes that are futher apart than you can two 1m3 cubes. Just FYI.

IIRC, the maximum distance is 32m between the centers of the two prims furthest apart in the link set. Andrew Linden posted it somewhere, so go searching if you don't trust my memory ;)

Whatever the restriction is... I agree it needs to be increased. I've had the same problem while linking my houses together.

I haven't run into this problem yet, but I wouldn't mind having it incresed. Absolutely correct... I use it for smaller things too, like putting a table and set of chairs into a box for sale... just drag it out and it's all nicely positioned.

Ive had the same problem. not only with houses but SPACE SHIPS =D
It would be nice if non physical objects could be alot longer hehe

Same here, I always find the limits pretty frustrating. I say should be extended to 100 meters minimum.

i believe its more a consideration for the physics system than for some aesthetic.. aka single, multi selected objects all apply to the physics engine as jus the single objects, easy
a linked object acts like one monstrous custom prim that the physics engine has an increasingly more difficult time calculating things like collisions with and stuff

Perhaps if we had a 'preserve selection' feature, where the physics engine thinks that the objects are unlinked, but the editing code makes it 'look' like we have all prims selected everytime we want to edit that 'set'. ==Chris
