I am interested in fixing many little issues with IM. I have started this thread in order to get a list of suggestions for options or fixes for IM. Please post you suggestions in this thread so I can organize all of the good suggestions into one document and submit it as a proposal.

My suggestions so far:

1. Friend ranking or priority levels for groups in order to set rules for getting IM’s.

2. An IM answering machine or virtual voice mail that sends an automatic IM’s back to friends that explain to them that you are busy if you are not in the mood to receive IM’s from them. This virtual voice mail could store a simple “who called” and “time stamp” so you could call back when not busy or delete it.

3. An “in call” pose or gesture, which would be an option or check box on the IM window, that when checked would invoke a gesture, a pose, or make you hold cell phone to your ear in order to indicate that you are busy in a conversation. If this option is not chosen your pose does not change.

I would like to set getting group IMs off, or then the IMs should be colored like dark blue. That way I would not mix group instant messaging with my important personal messages. Otherwise I might stop reading the IMs (and I would not see my important IMs), or I would set to not get any messages from the group. The most annoying thing was that I got announcement of a group member leaving from world as IM. That announcement could well be totally optional, too.

I think that it is really annoying to get rid of the "IM Received"-button that appears when you receive new message. If I want to get rid of it, it opens the IM window and then I have to close that too. So I would like that the button had a x-button, that allows to hide the "IM Received"-button without needing to open and close the instant messages window. Also there could be an option that the "IM Received"-button does not appear. I mean, I do see that I got IM because I have selected that IM shows on the screen where is the normal chat too.

Oooh nice, Sasha!

But with suggestion 2 - would it be possible (and simpler) to send the message to the person's inbox if they're busy?.
