Pave the Linden roads!

As the Lindens have given up on paving Linden roads, would they consider "Hiring" contractors to finish the job, I saw not long ago that they contracted out the job of building Railroad stations, it would be nice to "hire" a few dozen people to pave all the greenways in second life.

There was a Jira for a road paving group, set one up with limited permissions similar to the mentors but with rights to modify land and add paving blocks and I bet the job would be done very quick.

Here's the JIRA issue:
http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-602

I'd love to see the roads developed a lot more actively, as they add an extra character to the Second Life world, and also add value to mainland that is near them, which keeps them interesting. A load of other improvements will be needed down the line to make them really good (faster loading, auto-routing) but just having them would be a huge improvement IMO, they add value to any sim they pass through, and are currently just a waste of land which is left empty =(

A group surely wouldn't be too hard anyway, building the roads is fairly easy, and if members of the group can redo others' work then it means any ugly roads can be improved greatly with proper bridges or even prim tunnels!

Railways as well?

I'd like to see the railways developed a little more too. I've found one reference to a train that actually runs on them, and that was a Youtube video!

Amazing idea. I just got a hoverboard and had to search for a road to try it. I would love to see roads and rails. The world is so ephemeral without physical connections. Teleport here, fly there, ignore everything as it disappears into the fog.

I have a road in front of my store but I am near the end of the Sim and that is where the road just abruptly ends and you walk into midair...

Back in the day all the older sims had roads..and telehubs..but in places like Zermatt and Moen(snow sims) the roads were removed..I assume they were removed in other places as well.

I've been in a "rail" mood as of late and built a passenger train with engine coal car and passenger car and railways thru a quarter of the sim of Moen.

Because nothing actually attaches to anything else I sort've gave it the feel that the train had stopped in this old town and after that railways were dismantled.. it stayed a"historical landmark" and all that  ..feel free to come see. :)

Thankyou hun :o The engine alone is over 230 prims and short of making the engine an attachment and then the other cars attachments too..I don't really see it going anywhere...however i have seen Primouth Motors make their vehicle attachments quite high in prim counts..and it seems to work..so.i would guess if I really wanted to set my mind to it I could..but i bet the lag would be unreal on sim resources

Thanx for looking!! :)

I bought one of Apolon Obscure's cars and found a rezzing lot in Suisun. It's really fun to drive, despite sim crossing lag. And you see things from a much better perspective than flying. My house in Dreamland needs a driveway.

I think the Dept of Public Works should be putting some of its energies into stuff like this. Building nice areas on the mainland is important, but fixing up the roads would be very popular it seems to me. if the roads were paved and could be used for travelling, people would explore more rather than just TPing everywhere.

Yep it's amazing what you find travelling roads, they also look neater then the anarchy of having no front & back to plots of land.
And I have found a few mainland sims with impassable roads, due to LL trees in the road and sim physics failures, Sundana hasn't been passable by vehicles for over 6 months, Hantu's road surface dissappeared 12 months ago and hasn't returned, cars get caught now wedged under the incomplete roadway at the sim crossings.
