I have my self a nice little system, Win XP 64bit, 4 GB ram, Yadda, yadda,... My Mate on the other hand.... Not so good a system. I started tinkering with it to make it faster and the fastest way I found to speed it up, Put cache to a dedicated Ready Boost(Or at least one of the same speed) flash disk at 1GB! Great overall speed boost Since not only was it not on the drive with the OS, but it was on a faster bus on it's own dedicated drive.....
Here is where my suggestion comes in. I believe that LL should allow the cache size of SL to be, while still defaulted to 500MB, able to meet or exceed an 8GB cache size! The reason for this, with flash disks you can read from them pretty much as much as you want, Problem is you can only write to them so many times before the flash disk fails. Right now the biggest flash you can get pretty much is an 8GB for about $40 on eBay, and recently, my mate and I picked up a 4gb for $25 at BB. These flash disks I feel would be a cheep way to upgrade ones system and help speed it up and if one isn't having to reload a lot of the same old stuff from zone's, then that saves on writes to the flash disks. Even then, it Can(might) help save on some degree, on the end of both Player and LL, Precious, PRECIOUS...... Bandwidth!
Even if you don't agree on the latter, Saving writes on a flash disk while at the same time have a dedicated Cache thats Fast, can't beat that!

I wouldn't go after a eBay one, if you're going to abuse it like that, get a brand new one. You can get a 1 GB one for $10 here which should serve most people fairly well. "free" 2 GB (it's $50 with $50 mail in rebate and you get some Anti Virus software) Or this 2 GB for $204 GB for $33A 1 GB cache should be more than enough, but if you splurge for the 2 GB one you won't feel like money's burning a hole in your pocket when they die. Shouldn't need (or want) more than a 4 GB (it's also the best value, 30:4 vs 10:1). Edit: Oh yeah. BBCode don't work.

What can I say, I'm a Size queen! Even if 8 GB may be a bit much, would it hurt for the option? All it really would be would just be a slight change in code. No serious rework of anything I can think of since that's relatively just a SL Viewer code change.

The reason they reduced the cache size again after opening it up was because they found that at really big sizes the cache actually slowed things down. On a flash drive that limit might be higher (before bigger doesn't mean better), but if you really want it you could grab the opensource code.

If I could program something a little more complex then HTML and network scripts, I would love to do that! Bad thing for me, I've been a Windows Sys Admin(*Shuters* and yes, I am trying to transition away to Mac and Linux Cause Windows just Sucks) for about 11 years now and I have tried to learn programing.... My brain just won't let it stick! Like I said, I suck in that way. {{As a side note, This is not actually Nexxus, But his mate Kishi, on his compy. He can post in forums since he has payment info. I don't. I say this Just so no one thinks Nexxus is actualy this bad.}}
