This is my concern...
We now have the ability to hide our online status, but only from friends. I think it's fundementally destroying the point of "hiding" our oline status, if any joe shmoo not on your list can simply put your name in the "Search" field and it shows you if that person is currently online via their profile.
We should be allowed the same hiding ability as a linden, where our online status does not show up in our profile at ALL. Online status should only be viewable via friends list if you have it set that way. Otherwise, people who don't know you will just have to leave an "offline" message to you.
It's been very frustrating, because really you can't hide your status at all. you only cause people to get further irriated or you have to seem like mroe of a bastard when they discover that you have them set "invisible" when they just tell their buddy to run a search for your name and see if you're online.
Am I the only one that sees this as a feature that needs to be implemented??
I've seen voting for online status to be removed from the website as well, and I definitely voted for that. But it also needs to just not show up in people's profiles.
That's my rant.

That's how the online status works. Boot up an alt and search for yourself.

Uhmm all of that is fine unless you’re in a group and visible in that group. Then I believe they can check there and see that you are Online. :-/

Just by IMing you they'll be able to know you're online because they won't get the standard "the user is not online blah blah blah" message. There's just no way to hide from people here K.

There's just no way to hide from people here K. Yeah the only to mute them , and move, and never go back to any place they knew you went. Or anywhere in your picks. Or that any of your groups own. lol Wouldnt be so bad if more people were rational, but so many people seem to think you have no one else to talk to but them. Or if they ask you for cyborz you are rude to say no. Or if you dont make a point to say hi to them every single time they log in you are avoiding them. Etc.

From: Kitty Barnett That sounds scaringly familiar . (Virtual headaches do work for the cyborz ones though ) Do virtual periods as well? Anyway, isn't SL about communication for a big part? At least for me it is. Oh yes, I can understand that you sometimes don't want to be bothered by IM's. I have "busy" for that. That also takes care of IM's. Place a funny "busy"-message in your preferences and no one will be hurted. People who are on my friendlist are there for a reason... so they can see if I am online. The "Online/Search" thingy is already covered. And for those who really want to be "invisible", remember that there are scanning devices-around who show your online-status by checking directly if you are online and by pass the friendlist or any setting in your preferences.
