Mainland & Terraforming

I have thought this over and over and I think that this would be an excellant idea for Land Owners like myself that own over 1/4 sim of Mainland.
I would like to see landowners who own over 1/4 Sim of Mainland be able to Terraform thir Land like the Island owners are allowed to. Well, maybe not all the way Considering we don't want outrageous hills around us and making us feel like we are in a huge hole. But, I own over 1/4 sim in Jourdain, all attached to make that 1/4, and I have alot of wasted space because I cant raise or lower my land to make ir all one level. I love having water as part of my parcel, but I would like to have some water and more land to build on. I have mountains or hills as you want to call them, that I can't lower/raise to meet up with my land that is flat. I would love the opportunity to be able to have all my land at one level so I can build upon it without having to waste Prims by making platforms to get it leveled. I think that this would be a very nice way to thank Land owners like myself that own 1/4 sim or over that is all ONE parcel to be able to do. I know that Linden Labs would need to put a height on it and a limit on how far you can lower, but all I want is my parcel one level with some water so it can still be considered beachfront.
I would buy an Island if I could afford to do so, but in today's economy I can't and so I own my 1/4 sim of Mainland whcih I love living on.
This also might be a very nice incentive for more Land Owners to buy land to make theirs a 1/4 sim (one Parcel attached, not seperate parcels adding up to 1/4 sim) so they can have time to make a nicer place to live.

Once upon a time, we could raise and lower the mainland by +/- 50m+, and i think it was even 100m....I forget as i had a different limit in my mainland sim than the rest of the grid thanks to Andrew.

BUT what happened was this.

An escort came along, and she became a land barron. And she took it upon herself to 'develop' sims she purchased land in. By develop, i mean she would create HUGE 40m+ land walls to cut off areas of the sim that she did not want to see, and then she would tell people that she made their land look better and more sell able by having her well landscaped parcels in the same sim - even though she would wreak hell on the land.

If you think the mainland is bad now - imagine someone going around creating huge walls of terrain, or flattening out huge swatches of land - all in the name of 'development and improving the land'.

So no... Literally because of Me Love You Long Time Escort Girl Anshe Chung, mainland was reduced to +/- 4m.

Well, as you stated: "There are plenty of threads in the archives about this." That was then and this is now. The Lindens want ideas on how to improve the mainland, well this is one. The Lindens also have the control to take away what has been given to someone that abuses the rights they have been given. If we are given the opprotunity and don't abuse it, then everyone is happy . If for some reason someone does abuse it, then the Lindens can come see that they have abused what was given to THEM and take it away so they can't have the opportunity like others to raise and lower their land. Then they just add notes to this person's avatar or their Addy (for tracking purposes) and they are Red Flagged and are never given the rights to be able to terraform mainland again.
What one person has done was wrong, and others who own over 1/4 sim of mainland should not be punished for their stupidity. Plus anything that is 40 meters in height aka a mega prim is not allowed in SL, they were banned from what I understand.

So you propose that LL polices each individual as they 'break the law' of terra-forming?

You know...that is how it worked, back then. They cannot police individuals anymore, SL is too big. They cannot hand out the keys to the mainland to everyone and say "be on your good behavior or else", because people do what people want out of selfishness and ignorance. The mainland was restricted because the scope for abuse was way too wide for SL to police and the abuses started happening all over with dueling neighbors creating walls made out of land to block their view of what they considered unsightly, thus destroying the terrain of a sim.

It is not doable. SL is too big for avatar policing at the level you are describing.

It can be done. There are ways, just everyone needs to brainstorm and come up with some good ideas on how this can be done. I will keep my mind open to new changes and ways to help the Mainland get back on it's feet as to speak. It would be helpful to hear from some Lindens on this matter and it would also be helpful to have some numbers in regards to how many People out their actually own over 1/4 sim of mainland. I am 1 of them, and I would love the opportunity to terraform my land to being flat with water on the edges. This way I will have a better opportunity to beautify what I pay for better without wasting prims on platforms, that don't look nice. I prefer to use the land and not the platforms.
How many other Mainland Owners are out there that own over 1/4 sim that would like to be able to adjust their land to a certain depth or height if allowed without abusing the Priviledge?
It also would give people more incentatives as I mentioned earlier to buy Mainland, and to own a 1/4 sim or more.
Would also like some positive responses in regards to my 1st post about Mainland & Terraforming.
