Okay, I've been wanting this for some time, and it's ergonomically sound because, even though this feature isn't part of the UI, I constantly act as if it was and am disappointed.
When I'm IMing with someone, it really makes sense to me that if I were to double click on the IM window selector tab (the part with the person's name on it under the IM window) that it should pull up that person's profile. This would be extremely useful when IMing someone at a distance (which is really generally any time you are IMing someone) and you want to offer them a teleport.
Now, I usually have to say "hold on a second" meaning I have to take the time to open my inventory. Scroll through my calling cards. Pull up the card for the person I'm currently talking to, then offer them a teleport.
Seems cumbersome. . .
I can't see any reason why you would Not want this function.

I agree. A lot. Probably more so than anything else for a long time. Lindens... do this. Now! and put that damned clock in the UI while you're at it and reinstate the little Sim summaries and av count at the bottom corner of each sim on the map. It's a pain in the ass having to wait for a tooltip. and add the 'Take Off > Skirt' option to the pie menu. Why can I strip everything else I'm wearing then have to delve into my inventory or appearance UI to remove the skirt? sorry. got carried away. *leaves quietly*

Agreed, would be a cool feature. Oneironaunt, in the meantime, a quicker way to offer a teleport is to find them with the search option. I have over 850 calling cards and it is a nightmare to think about opening my inventory calling card folder, much easier to just search for them.

Also, how about llUIViewProfile(string userid)?
I had an idea for this, but now I can't remember what it was...
oh yea!
I could make a script that listens for:
/vp Loki Pico
and up pops Loki Pico's profile!
I'd also like to find a way to send an IM via script as if it were coming from me, so I could script:
/im Loki Pico Good morning!

I agree with all these suggestions. As a workaround you might try clicking Find then typing in the person's name and hitting enter. I find it's a lot faster than scrolling through 10,000 calling cards. Incidentally, calling cards have no financial value in 1.2 so we can finally clear out 90% of the cards that are cluttering our inventory. Yay for faster logon times. From: someone I'd also like to find a way to send an IM via script as if it were coming from me, so I could script: /im Loki Pico Good morning! You should be able to do this now. Make an object that listens for you to say, "/im" then takes the next two words as the IM target and the rest of the string as the message. Name the object "Kex Godel" and attach it. Caveat: Everyone around you will see the contents of your IM.

One, I say this only because it took me a while to use the 1.1 Find box effectively: If I am IMing you and want to tport you, the sequence is: Ctrl-F "One" Return, Click your name, click Offer. Not quite as quick as your proposal, but faster than a calling card search. And yes, for weeks after 1.1 I was still hunting calling cards too. Edit: oops, I mean what Julian said

Cool.
Yeah, I've used find as well, but it also means opening another window besides the IM window.
And as to calling cards, early on, I learned to separate them into folders of people I know versus people I just have the card for. However. I Know a lot of people. Still takes a while just to go through that folder.
And finally, a 1.2 complaint (as if we don't get enough of those).
What's with Calling Cards being removed as a financial incentive?
I mean, I know they are easy to acquire, but in the beginning, knowing that calling cards would raise my bonus really got me out there and attending events.
LL, if you have to, significantly decrease the financial bonus benefit of the cards, but don't eliminate it. Else, you're gonna find yourself with a lot more hermits building some really strange stuff up in that shack of theirs on the hill.

From: someone I mean, I know they are easy to acquire, but in the beginning, knowing that calling cards would raise my bonus really got me out there and attending events. I think their reasoning is that since everyone passed out cards to everyone else without thinking about it and without (usually) any intent to say hello, get to know the person, or ever see them again, it makes sense to do away with the monetary benefit and let them be a tool for organizing friends and aquaintances. This increases their value and their meaning and removes the mechanism that leads to endless card searches and cluttered inventory. Not to mention cluttered databases. From: someone Else, you're gonna find yourself with a lot more hermits building some really strange stuff up in that shack of theirs on the hill. You say that like it's a bad thing. Don't let Lordfly hear you.

This is now implemented in the 1.2 client preview. There's a [Profile] button in the IM window. It shows the profile of the person you're IMing, or the person who opened the chat if it's a group IM (arguably a bug, as group profile would seem more appropriate in that case).
Congrats! =D
