Hello, I propose a feature to be added to group roles permissions to allow or disallow group chat. This feature would be useful because allot of groups are dedicated to group notices and not group chat that mostly contains spam anyways. Vote for this proposal at http://secondlife.com/vote/vote.php?get_id=3372Thanks, Vicero Lambert

All proposals and bugs are now posted on JIRA. Just FYI. It only mentioned that people could mute group chat but I dont see anything that states that the group owner can "disable" group chat as in only allow a single role to chat in group.

Added my version to JIRA. http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-731I would like to see a feature added to group permissions that you can allow only a few people to use group chat or totally disable it completely. Example: Role Admin: Group Chat Starting (Enabled) - Group Chat Viewing (Enabled) //Admin is allowed to start group chat and view it. Role Officer: Group Chat Starting (Disabled) - Group Chat Viewing (Enabled) //Officer is not allowed to start a group chat and is allowed to view it. Role Guest: Group Chat Starting (Disabled) - Group Chat Viewing (Disabled) // Guest is not allowed to view or start a group chat.

This Is A Top Priority Issue
07-01-2008 13:33
This is commented in the JIRA Key: MISC-731 THIS IS A GOOD STARTING POINT TO SOLVE THE TERRIBLE SPAMMING PROBLEM IN SECOND LIFE. IT SHOULD BE GIVEN TOP PRIORITY AT LINDEN LABS, BECAUSE THE COMMUNITY IS BEING RUINED BY SPAMMERS. PEOPLE ARE LEAVING MY GROUP EVERY DAY BECAUSE OF THE SPAMMING. SPAMMERS SHOULD ALSO BE PUNISHED MORE SEVERELY. LET SPAMMERS KNOW THAT THEY ARE NOT WELCOME IN SECOND LIFE
Group Management needs the ability to MUTE people in the group... to stop them from sending spam to the whole group. I manage a large group, and when someone in the group sends spam, it annoys a lot of people. There is currently no way to control this, other than to eject a spammer from the group. But if the group is set to self join, that will not work. There needs to be an additional control to stop people from spamming groups. BY NOT RESOLVING THIS ISSUE IMMEDIATELY (IN THE NEXT RELEASE) LINDEN LABS IS ACTIVELY PROMOTING SPAMMING AND DESTROYING THE SECOND LIFE COMMUNITY IN THE PROCESS. (NOTE: I offer a $1,000 bonus to the Linden Labs employee who will take leadership and responsibility for this proposal and have it included in the next upgrade release of the viewer. Dated 1-July-2008 by Anthony Adams. Notify me in advance please)

Necropost I know, but I have to say http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/MISC-64 seems to be the better of the JIRAs. Why? Because groups are for chatting. Sure some people use them for other things. But personally I use them for talking to my customers en masse. (gasp! unheard of). So I think it's better to allow those few who take exception to it the ability to turn off group chat, or not, depending on their preference. I don't want it to be a group role, I would have to constantly move people in and out of the chat role (because my group would have chat enabled as the default, thats how i want it). Better to give the individual the control rather than the group owner, in this case. So Vote MISC-64 ( on a side note, both of these JIRAs were created back when it was impossible to close the group chat window, it would spring back open. This has since been fixed, and normal group chatting *should not* be a issue any longer. But some people like to complain anyway.)

Dated 1-July-2008 by Anthony Adams. Notify me in advance please) As soon as Viewer 1.20 becomes the standard viewer, group management will be much better. Features of 1.20: - If you eject someone from your group, their group window is forced closed. - If you mute a person, their group chat is also muted. There is a small problem introduced by a related fix to accidental muting however, I am hoping it gets fixed before 1.20 is standard. Basically it opened a loophole so that anyone can get out of a mute. http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-1735
