I was flying around in my Doom Fortress 3.0 today, and it was actually working. I flew from Cardova over around the new sims, then back to Cardova and into the Vehicle sims, all with no problem. I decided to pay an exciting visit to the Welcome Area to show off my exciting new Doom Fortress to the patrons there...


And Then It Blew Up.


I couldn't have asked for a worse place for my Doom Fortress 3.0 to blow up. This one was smaller than my older doom fortress which always blew up much sooner.

I'm not sure I even crossed a sim border when this happened!



Anyway here's the kicker. After only about a minute, as I was inspecting the pile of shattered fortress on the welcome area, SHOOMP! It all gets scooped up, every piece returned to my inventory! EVERY SINGLE UNLINKED PIECE.


I would like to suggest this feature.

Increase the autoreturn timer at the welcome area by five-ten minutes, to give people who have accidents like this enough time to delete most of thier shattered fortress remains.

Please?

Relee, that exact same thing happened to me when I flew over the Welcome Area in my airship! Pieces rained down on innocent bystanders! Oh the humanity!

What's the deal with things unlinking so often recently? Is this a new bug?

As for the object return at the Welcome Area... yes, a slightly longer autodelete time would be nice.

I think it is because both objects are very large.

That shouldn't matter. Anyway like I said I shrank this version of my doom fortress so that it wouldn't blow up. :/

Cubey, how large is your blimp? Over 30? Over 40?

I've not had problems with my BadYear version, and that's stable on sim crossings - it blew up once and that was cos I over-optimistically put a cannon on the nose, so that was fairly expected.

Using the LL linking suggestions appears to be the safe way to do it - root prim's the hemisphere on the nose, then prims 2 & 3 are the main blimp body. Everything else is catchall linking, and that seems perfectly fine over its 35m length.

(There should be a version parked in Grey, middle of the sim, 210 metres up if you're interested. Ignore the guns targeting you...)

I relinked my airship on the weekend. I don't attempt to circumvent the 30m linking limit or anyting like that, because that's almost certain to make your ship explode :)

It's pretty stable now, but has exploded once (over the Welcome Area) since I relinked it. I'd rather not relink it with different parent prims, because then I'd have to change the sit target and the all of the vectors in my docking script.

dude, what's up with all these "exploding flying fortress" posts last few days? Is that some way of having a place to live without needing actual land? (if so, very sneaky) Or is it just a few people pushing the limits of what's possible?

Mwa ha ha, I have been secretly testing my new combination anti-aircraft/doom-fortress death ray. Nothing in the air will be safe when i have perfected it.

Thank you for these continued reports of our success.
We are moving closer to the ability to single handedly delink objects belonging to others at will.
ESPECIALLY IN THE WELCOME AREA!
Soon the technology will be perfected to the point of not requiring so many of our kind working in unision.
Soon we will each be able to delink, derez, and teleport you against your will.

Heh, actually.. Being today is my third day of playtime, I've nowhere near the money to buy land. So what do I do? Throw out a pyramid prim, invert it, twist it a bit and add dirt texture and a slow drifting script and voila. You've got one of those anime style floating islands that hold a cabin. ;) Works for now until I can buy a lot.

Well my Doom Fortress is supposed to be a solid powerful symbol of my ultimate power, a fountain of indescribable might.

Basically it's a giant mobile home that would contain copies of various scripts so that I wouldn't have to go searching for them whenever I wanted to use them.

Also it would have various weapons like Death Rays and Plasma Cannons.


Though it's not working out like I wanted, and it's not as spacious as I hoped, so I might work on something else for a while.


It seems the only thing that would satisfy me now is a non physical flying vehicle that won't drop people. :P


I suppose if that's possible I'll figure it out eventually. Maybe if I use armour prims. Hmm...
