It would be a great way for us to keep in touch with our SL friends when we can't be near a computer. It shouldn't be too hard to port the Mac OS SLim to work on the iphone.

I hope LL make their homework before this feature will be *accepted*...we currently don't have SLVoice working in an official native way under Linux for OVER A YEAR NOW and we even don't have a SLim client from Vivox for Linux...

Linux. Come on, man. We're talking iPhone. Linux is like the metric system to me. I can't begin to wrap my head around it.
But iPhone - I gotta have every gadget available for it. And it just makes sense that Second Life would be accessible in some form on my iPhone. I don't think Linden Lab will come out with the app - but some outside developer who is a SL junkie is probably working on it right now. . _____________________

I agree... it would be a cool app for the iPhone!! They should also make a SL app as well. I've been using the SL app for Nokia for awhile, but it sucks looking at things on such a small screen.

I'm not sure i understand this... voice is working fine in Linux... sure it can't support every of millions of combinations between software and hardware choices... but most work fine. Yes there is problems with fmod not playing well and blocking out SLvoice from being able to work while SL is running (mainly with PulseAudio set ups), but thats fixed for a lot of people in the test version that uses OpenAL... I have no idea what you mean by an official native way though.. its official, native, and supported... and when the OpenAL fork gets into the main release, maybe it'll be better for some people, but right now its just as easy to use the test version. But any of that in no way should ever effect them making SLim for iphone or other portable devices |

Rather than approach this from the platform-specific angle, it might be better to encourage LR to adopt XMPP for their external IM system. XMPP clients are available for most smartphones including the iPhone, and come standard with Android-equipped phones. http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-419 |

Speaking as someone who uses Linux, SLVoice works fine with decent sound adapters (ie, ones that play multiple streams). The problem, however, is that most people have craptastic single-stream chipsets. The voice issue is being worked on, fortunately, from at least two angles. http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-6593 http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/VWR-9258 Remember, you can help speed things up by contributing to the appropriate source projects (be it the SL viewer, PulseAudio, or Voice for Virtual Worlds). |

Never mind both Linux and MacOS are unix, and MacOS X borrows heavily from various Linux desktop environments. MacOS even ships with the same GNU tools as all Linux distros. Then again, we are talking about the person who seems to think they're personally entitled to the entire Region of Bear. |

I'm not sure i understand this... voice is working fine in Linux... sure it can't support every of millions of combinations between software and hardware choices... but most work fine. Sound works fine, but then again, the SL Viewer itself isn't doing anything exotic either. Voice is where things get sticky, and makes it rather difficult to handle properly on systems with audio devices that can only play one stream. Unfortunately, most audio devices can only play one stream, and support for the most popular sound device that doesn't (SoundBlaster Live) is entirely broken for SLVoice. Fun, eh? Yes there is problems with fmod not playing well and blocking out SLvoice from being able to work while SL is running (mainly with PulseAudio set ups), but thats fixed for a lot of people in the test version that uses OpenAL... Is OpenAL in the RC yet or is it only in build 100,000? I'm trying to get voice working right on a pair of ThinkPads and I'm running into voice /not/ working for the first time ever. I really wish Lenovo would have been a little less stingy and put a real audio chipset on board, but, unfortunately, we don't always get what we want, and really the audio chipset's about my only real complaint with the ThinkPad line. |

I suspect there are considerably more linux users than iphone owners... |
