There used to be a time when we flew down to Ahern/Dore every day to get our event schedule. Having a Linden announce events was a wonderful service.
Now the events are conveniently listed under a button. However, why even bothering clicking that button if all events are still announced? Lindens are only human in that they have the same problem with time notation as most other Amies, having events announced does not stimulate people to use the built-in Event button, and the time could be used by Lindens to do more important jobs, or just hang around at the newbie ovens.
Whatever the true reasoning, an option to turn receiving those announcement off would be appreciated.

I don't mind the IM reminder. Half the time I'm playing I can never remember what time it is in game so the IM reminders help me. And I still constantly use the Event calender in game.

I agree with Harold. I am often scripting and see some sort of IM flashing, this interupts my train of thought as I go to see if it is important.
The suggestion was an option to turn off Events IM's, not lose them completely. So you have the choice to see them or not. It could even default to on every time you login and be a button on the events calendar ingame so that you look at the calendar then click the button to not see the IM's for that login session?

I'd be happy either way if the IM button didn't FLASH, but just lit up when you have a message waiting. Since I usually SEE the event notice scroll up in my chat HUD, I don't really need to go click the button. But to get it to stop the annoying flashing, I have to go click it, then close the window.
Perhaps only flash it a few times. If the user hasn't been giving the game any input (in other words, their 30 minute idle counter is running) flash the IM continuously until they DO move the mouse or something, and then flash it the same few more times, and stop.
No one liked the <blink> tag in HTML either...
