I have some friends in SL who I sometimes don't want to chat with. I want to still be their friend but sometimes I need alone time for building or spending time with other friends. I'd usually hide my online status from them and it's always worked until now...
A friend somehow found out how to tell if I am online, and up until last night I didn't know how the hell she did so. At first I thought she was using some sort of script or tracker, but it turns out that in GROUPS your online status shows 'online' to everyone, including the very people who you've hidden yourself from... that's if they are in that group...
Please add in a new group feature that will also hide a player's online status in group lists to that certain person... or put in a new feature that will let us select (in that group) who can and can't see a player's status.
I love the groups I'm in and dont want to leave them but if there's no improvement with this issue I'll have to leave all of them, just to secure my social privacy... please add that group feature on!!

I'd rather opt for removing the option to hide your online status. It is pointless because you can see any person's status by freely available scripts - I think it is a one liner. And even if it was possible to login being completely invisible it is still possible to run into the person you are hiding from. This is not a messenger service, we are present in a 3d world. If you need to hide, use an alt. All that hiding creates a negative atmosphere of mistrust and suspicion. I really hate it.
IMHO it would be much better to just get rid of the hiding option and implement a better busy state instead: Forward all IMs to email directly, accept no notices whatsoever, hide chat and group IMs. The option to decline/trash inventory should be togglable though. Busy/away states should be visible in the friends list, like they are in SLim.

It makes it a lot easier to work on scripts, build, etc., without all those interruptions, and if they'd fix things where things like receiving an item from the website formerly known as slex wouldn't fail just because you're busy, there'd be a whole lot less need to create alts or hang out on the beta grid, just to be able to work without unwanted interruptions. Plus you wouldn't have to deal with an alt being shown as the creator of something which you made, that's a plus for people with businesses. Let somebody check something and find the real info about the business from the real profile of the business owner, rather than having to set up an alt as a business owner when you know they're not actually active in the business because that's your main.
