If I'm just missing something please let me know where it is but........
When a user is offline you just get the default "user is offline - message will be delivered later" response.
Could we not be given the opportunity to change this (like the busy response)?
I would find this useful when I'm going to be offline for an extended period (eg holidays) but need to let customers know this.
Then the message could say something like "I'm going to be offline until 1 October 2007. I'll get back to you as soon as I'm back".
At least this would stop people resending IM's they think you've ignored.

I think this is a great idea - I'd vote for it.
We can already do it for 'Busy', why not for offline too? If it took slightly longer for the message to appear in IM then its a small price to pay.
