The ancient maps on the telehubs did this sort of overlay to indicate sim ratings and other information, so obviously the Lindens thought this was a good idea at some point. I'd love to see more tabs in the map window with additional information we could toggle on and off. Sim speed averages, population densities, prims per meter, land turnover rates, etc, etc, etc...

I endorse this product and or feature.
But I prefer the witch hunt version... preferably rezzing a big red arrow over the avatars head saying 'here! this is the culprit! Lagmonster! Lagmonster!' Um. p'raps not. _____________________

I endorse this idea/feature.
I want more map options too! ![]() _____________________

Go to Seacliff.
Find the tallest peak. Get close to it. You should see a small black box mostly buried in the mountain top. Mouseover it. There should be a URL in it's description. Go to that URL. It contains stats for all the sims. _____________________

Not all. I thought so at first, but I'm guessing Chromal hasn't acquired land or negotiated a spot to put a prim in every sim.
It is a neat page though. Unfortunately the graphs for each sim use varying FPS ranges so you can't really compare one graph to another. |

I sort of doubt they'd want this information in an easily accessiable view (map).
"So, my sim sucks, his sim rocks. I want my money back because the map shows that my sim is the WORST in game." ..or.. "My sim, simA, sucks. simB rocks, I'm moving NOW (and taking all my 23,465 listeners and uber physically colliding 100 prim w/joints swing set with me)," said 416 players. Next day.. "simB sucks! All these people moved in and now simB has the worst FPS of all the sims. I want a refund," said 415 players. (player 416 couldn't log into the sim for some odd reason) |

Future of 'Glanceable' Technology Glows
I think this article is interesting given Maxx's comment on pattern recognition and such. |

I've loved the concept of the Ambient Orb. I'm going to make my own version of the sim-lag map on my own using similar technology. As soon as I bother logging into SL again.

Here's an idea:
I've seen a few Sim FPS meters in various sims. They measure, at appropriate intervals, the fps of the region and display it in some way. Step 1: Make one of those, minus the display, and put a copy in each sim. Step 2: Have them set up to communicate via email with a centrally located map. The map looks like the world map and has a cube laid over each region, very thin, partially transparent, and scaled to cover that square of the map. Step 3: As each sim's measuring object reports in, the corresponding prim on the map changes color to represent the current fps of that region. Step 4: Give me a portion of the dwell. |

I was thinking the same thing, Eggy. It seems kind of painful to go on a quest for a URL.
"Journey into the rising sun until you come to the lair of the Wyrm of Thôrg in the Kingdom of the Mugans. In the horde of the beast is kept a Flamegem of great power in whose glittering heart is set, wrought with forgotten skill, a mithril rune. Speak it aloud and Reeaawwwwk the Windlord, swiftest of the eagles will carry you to the jagged peak of Mount Skeür where dwells the Keeper of the Sword of Herlblargh, the only blade which may defeat the immortal guardian of the bridge over the bottomless Chasm of Slóom beyond which lies the Desert of Eternal Thirst. Cross the desert and journey through the Yaltonian Swamps until you come at last to the Ends of the Earth. Ask for Chuck and he'll give you the URL." |

I do agree.
However, lets consider the fact that a perfectly sane sim can turn to HELL the next day due to one simple (or perhaps not so simple) build.... you buy your land in quiet little sim, and boom the next day... bammo laghell. just a thought. |

Julian -- had a similar idea for a website, but perhaps a spot in-world would be nifty too.
Eggy -- http://www.planet-zero.org/~chromal/simstats/ Coreina -- I would push for keeping sim stats, so people can see spikes/dips and get an overall feel for the sim. Since the people posting in this thread are obviously interested, and without the sake of looking at stats, what would be good thresholds for sim "health"? Like, under 200 is red, 200-500 is orange, 500-1000 is yellow, 1000+ green? Something like that? (Edited to respond to Coreina) |

A website would certainly be easier to setup and maintain, Bino.
Re: threshold levels. What's the maximum sim fps? Is there a maximum? |

Based on Chromal's graphs, I saw that some sims are up in the 8000 range, but that's probably a crisp new empty sim.
I don't think I've ever seen anything 10000+ though. I did see a sim at 0.7 once, but I'm sure people have seen lower ![]() ISTR someone telling me once an average sim is 2000fps, but, 750-1000 seems to be par for the course from my experience (not looking at Chromal's site) |

Currently have an in-world mockup going based on the discussion in this thread.
Have 4 cubes representing the 4 city sims (Barcola, Miramare, Grignano, and Sistiana) along with a controller cube, which communicates with an object in each sim to get status updates every 5 mins or so. Also emails me the information, have something like 440 emails piled up so far ![]() Red is under 100, orange is 200-500, yellow is 500-1000, green is 1000+ for FPS. It's located in the NW corner of Miramare, sorry I don't have coords. My build is the unfinished black and gold triangular one, the mockup is on the first floor. |
