Linden, before you are treated with a class action lawsuit, please consider stopping your FALSE ADVERTISING.

Please indicate "512 m2 land rights grant" rather than "512 m2 land grant". The latter is NOT vague and expressly indicates to the casual reader a grant of land.

Hi. It's Linden, not Lumen, hehe. I personally think it's clear, if you read the pages explaining how land works. However, I guess more clarity couldn't hurt!

:)

"lumen" fixed to "linden" .. keep thinking of lumenlab.com which is completely off topic but for some reason I get the names confused hehehe

The specific area of the web site I'm referring to is in the Registration Process, that speaks of the "land grant". "Land grant" is VERY BAD verbage. It should say "land rights" or "land rights grant", but "land grant" is absolutely unacceptable.

You people who keep talking about "the pages explaining how land works" sound like lawyers, "You should read the fine print." Horse manure. When you're nearly finished filling out a registration and your heart is pounding because you want to get in the game and then you're given a summary overview of the account types before you sacrifice your soul (so to speak), who in his right mind would THINK to double-check "the pages explaining how land works"? There isn't even a direct hyperlink emphasizing that registrants should double-check. And in the English language "land grant" means a grant of land, period.

Okay, it should say "land tier" instead of "land grant". It is mildly confusing, but geez. Lawsuit over a bit of verbage? Get a grip. Good luck finding an attorney that will take the case.

You get L$1000 for signing up and you get L$500 a week stipend. The Lindens will find you a 512m plot of land for L$512 if you sign up on the "land for the landless" thread here in the forums. Its not like your really getting ripped off or anything. Go find 512m land on your own and see what the asking prices are for them in the open market.

Relax a little bit. No need to be so pissed off.

Not pissed off, but don't go mistaking this to be a size issue. If the little white lies with little itsy bitsy loss to their users are kept unchecked, I could never trust Linden for any little white promises they produce.

In fact, for every 1,000 newbies mistaking thinking they are getting a land grant but must dish out L$512 through the Land for the Landless program (which I wholeheartedly admit the program helps a lot), that's L$512,000 gain for Linden at 1,000 users' expense.

The lindens gave you that money. Lindens do not treat Linden Dollars as having real world value. Its play money. The residents are the ones that decided it was worth something.

You hit a nerve with me Jon, my apologies. You have made about 10 posts here in the forums, all complaining or suggesting a way to do things better. You have not even been here long enough to see what is going right. SL is really an amazing piece of technology.

You can complain all you want if thats your method. The Lindens do listen to constructive critism, but confrontational critism is not going to get you very far. SL has been through a lot of changes during and since beta, and its going to continue to evolve. Our imput will help mold it, as it has already.

Im really sorry your not happier with SL, but it seems you have barely given it a chance.

I have to agree with Jon. The Land Grant thing was very confusing when I first joined.

I think it needs to be reworded too, no arguement from me.

I was just taken back by the tone of Jon's post. Perhaps my reaction was a bit overblown. Again, my apologies.

I ran into a few newbies who asked "wheres my land?" so yes, rewording would be nice. As it does sound like you get that land for free and as if its waiting for you.

It should be more like "Chance to buy 512m without having to pay more monthly" or some such. A Grant sounds like something given freely to most.

Sorry, Loki, but for your education, US$ is fiat (valueless) currency, created out of thin air when the Treasury fills out a hot check with the private Federal Reserve banks. In other words, US$ is play money, too... we just happen to use it for real world value.

Last I checked L$2,000 exchanges for US$9.95 hard cash on Linden's site, and similar exchanges are available on other sites.

At that exchange rate, L$512,000 = US$2,547.20.

I dont want to argue with you, the tit for tat could go on endlessly. I stand by what I said. The Lindens dont actively trade L$ for US$. They do provide a link to third parties that do trade, however. Of course, you could argue that you get Linden Dollars for your subscription fee. They wont buy your L$ from you though.

I have already agreed with you that the wording needs to be changed. Im done.

I don't think Linden Lab is selling their L$ on sites like GOM and IGE. It'd be a nice profit for them, yes, but, they could create money out of thin air, and destroy the economy.

At least, I *hope* that they're not selling on IGE and GOM.

The point of having land cost money is so that L$ is taken out of the economy. The Lindens don't profit from it.

Since you start the game with L$550 and the Land for the Landless program will give you a plot of land for $512, then all you have to do is wait and for no further cost to you, you will have land. If you spend the money on other things, however, you have to wait a week or two for your free stipend money to replenish you.

But with the signup for a premium account, and no further action on your part other than posting in the Land for the Landless thread, you get your land.

So the wording, while perhaps still benefiting from a change, is not inaccurate. You just need patience. :)

Wrong.

Well, not the first part, but the conclusion you try to draw from it.

To use an analogy, linden is the guy playing banker in a game of monopoly. When someone pays 200 dollars (is that what ti is? It's been ages since I've played) to get out of jail, the player playing the banker doesnt make 200 dollars. It just gets taken out of play. The banker cannot buy anything with it, or really do much of anything with it... It just goes back into the limbo that is the plastic tray, waiting for someone to pass go, in which case money again re-enters the playing field.

Lindens make no real-world profit in any form off linden dollars. GOM and IGE and so forth are entierly end-user creations, and LL has stated as much.

In point of fact, in the one instance where lindens has any sort of official policy regarding how much L$ are worth, the linden exchange rate is far, far worse. There is an option to offset part or all of your monthly bill by cashing in linden currency. But the linden exchange rate is such that nobody does this directly... Its far better to sell your money on GOM and pay the bill with that, if the notion strikes you. The lindens have said repeatedly that while they are fine with *users* treating L$ as if they have real-world value, they officialy have none (Or next to none, at least, given the existance of the cash-in-for-playtime thing).

It doesn't matter. X amount of L$ and X amount of "land grant" were promised. If what they deliver is X amount lf L$ and X amount of "land grant" less Y amount of L$, then they are providing something different.

If I bought a six-pack of Coke and the checkout lady took a can from it and said, "Here, let me give you two Wal-Mart colas," well, that's nice, but it's not what I ordered.

If I go to a restaurant and buy a cheeseburger and fries, and they agree and take my money but then they give me two hamburgers with no cheese along with fries, well, that's nice, but it's not what I ordered.

There is simply no debate worth debating here. Honestly, what is the HARM done in changing "land grant" to "land rights" in the check-out screen of the web site? This is the ONLY question worth debating.
