No-Light Pass-Thru Objects

I would like to see objects that are made of wood, steel, or anything else that isn't transparent, be made to block the light of objects instead of just letting it pass through.

We could then actually make things such as pen-lights, spot lights, directional lights for art galleries.

I totally agree! A room with no windows should be pitch black inside, even in the day, if the door is shut. I realize this would be rather hard with the way ambient lighting works.

Oh and by 'window' I am refering to a prim with at least one side set to some degree of transparancy (My building has one-sided transparent windows so people can't see in)

Doubt we'll see this anytime soon... realistic realtime shadowing is a HUGE pain... it's just starting to become a mentioned feature in certain PC games like HL2 and Doom3, and they don't have to stream everything to you :)
It would be cool, though :)

It's just a matter of time though, isnt it? It wasn't really *that* long ago that 3D games only had ambient light!

I think the next few years will show some remarkable realtime 3D technology coming out (maybe in the next 2 years we'll have realtime shadows on video-cards as standard).

Quake had real-time lighting in 1996, and that was with software rendering. Same for Descent (1994). It isn't rocket science.
