NASA has recently successfully tested a network technology designed to work in situations in which response time can be measured in days or longer.

This might have application for Second Life in areas such as delivering textures, teleporting, logging in, filing support tickets, receiving inventory, saving scripts, walking, crossing sim borders, and other areas where delay is common.

;)

the internet is already providing the service, thats the whole thing behind packet routing, and decentralization

but when it comes down to it, think of it as your local discount store (wall / k mart)

those buggers have the ABILITY to handle 20 something lanes of traffic for checkout

but, !@#$ing crap if they dont have 2 cashiers working on Friday night at 5pm! when your just trying to buy a dvd, some beer, and nacho chips

thats the way SL is, theres no problem getting the info from point A to point B, were not waiting on physical waveforms to pass tru the depths of space (millions of miles, where light takes its sweet ass time to get here)

were waiting for the 16 million people in line, and the 1 cashier, who is retired, only wanted to work at target during the day to keep busy

and its now rush hour and she is nearly in tears with the overwhelming amount of traffic

(map of the internet, and all possible routes your data packets could take at any given time to reach its destination, as of 2004)
