Make SL even more of a reality.......

I was thinking.........lol. Why doesnt SL have some kind of voice program built in live "ventrilo" or "team speak" I use these two programs with other games of mine like AA OPPS or MW4 and a few others that are real intense you dont have time to type. So its much easier to hold a button and talk to your teamamtes. I wonder if there is a way to incorporate a voice program so you could actually talk to other chars. I guess it would be hard because there would be like 100s of people talking at the same time. but i guess you could have a little button to private talk with an individual. hmmmmm im gonna get ontonite and run my ventrilo server for anyone who has ventrilo. IM me in world if ya want to help me test thsi idea. that would be awesome.......lol then you could tell whos the lil kiddy using there mommies credit card lmmfao.

We've asked for it, we want it, along with a whole lot of integrated features, and this post should really be in the Feature Suggestion forum.

as I understand it they are working on this but the technology just hasnt peaked to that as a forerunner of importance at the momement...maybe with the debates about the kiddie Grid this will be put on a front burner to help assist in preventing Childeren on the main grid.

Minors aren't allowed in SL so having someone admit they are in high school sends up red flags.

Not everyone wants voice chat. You can count me among those that don't. Text is far more convenient. You don't have to ask everyone to repeat everything they said during the five minutes you were away using the bathroom. LL has said they don't want to implement voice chat until voice masking technology has improved so that people can have voices that go with their avs. I find the idea of a gruff male voice coming out of a impish female av to be a rather disturbing thought.

I also think it would be interesting to have voice in sl. I've been playing allot of halo 2. ^.^

Recently sl mentioned they are working on the api need for other people to add new functionality to sl client. If some one made an api that extracted your current sim, rotation, and vector that data could be used in-conjunction with a pre existing technology, such as stream mp3 to bring voice to sl.

not that im a big fan of naming names or attacking people, but im sick of users attacking other users. Camille Serpentine, why do you insist on persecuting people. If there is an issue with an underage client using the SL system it will be foud soon enough. Why cant people asume the best about each other instead of always being mean? .... Just a thought

Daemioth, Ventrilo has some very cool features for this. They have a text to speech filter, so people who are mute can still take part in conversation. We actually use this with a SL friend of mine who is mute.

Ventrilo is also pretty crystal clear, but I guess that all comes down to the bandwidth allocated per connected user and codecs.

As for why it isn't in SL, I believe I heard Philip say they don't want to do voice chat until you can change your voice in real time as much as you can customize your AV. IE, if you're a robot AV, and you want a robot voice, it processes and sends in near-real time.

Cool idea, look for it in SL version 3.6

For now, Ventrilo and TeamSpeak do the trick for us. Also check the forums for threads on SECOND VOICE.
