I am sure this has been suggested before, but what the heck...

Is there any plan to implement Star Wars Galaxies style speech bubbles in SL? That was pretty much the only feature in Galaxies I enjoyed :)

I am not suggesting this be in place of the chat history...just in addition to. It adds an interesting graphic novel feel to things when speech bubbles are used....It also lets you keep your eyes on the cool avatars and environment rather than the chat history window alone.

Would anyone else dig this action?

See ya in 1.1 tonight :)

Well hopefully you did not open up Pandora's box, like James did with the voice chat suggestion. I agree with you about chat bubbles - I think they add a certain whimsy to the environment. I know there are those who do not like them - so if they are added, they should be configurable - you either see chat as you do now, or as chat bubbles.

I especially liked the implementation of chat bubbles in There - you could see each word as someone was typing - it didn't feel like you were waiting an eternity for someone to finish typing and then having their sentence show up.

Good point...Simply making it a preference would be cool. You could either see the chat bubbles in addition to the standard chat display or just revert to the behaviour we all enjoy now.

I would prefer chat bubbles AND chat script.

There was a game I used to play called Dark Ages (By Nexon, not DAoC) and the speech was bubbles, but when a lot of people were around you could only follow the conversation by turning your chat window on.

Hey Relee! :)

I am not suggesting it be one or the other. Just, in addition to how chat is done currently you would also have the option of turning on Chat Bubbles for a specific radius around you. You have to admit it would be funny to look out at an audience during a talent show and see the comments from the peanut gallery displayed over their heads :)

Hey if you can turn them off no problem here, I find the chat log easier to use than bubbles bouncing around the screen: Ref: www.there.com

I support this only if there's three options: Chat as we have it now, Bubbles, and both at the same time. Obviously, chat history would work in any of this situations.

I agree, if we DID have speech bubbles, they'd DEFINITELY have to be optional. There's a lot that I'd like to see implemented first, but giving us the option of using speech bubbles or conventional text could be useful.

I'd love to have this as an option. If you selected speech bubbles it would have to turn off the cloud around someone when they chat of course.

i like the idea :) If I was in a large crowd I would want to turn the bubbles off though.

The speech bubbles were the thing I hated most about there.com, so I hope not.

Well, as long as the bubbles are an option that you can change EASILY (really, I mean like a button on the bottom of the screen easy) and as long as the chat bubbles are done well (i.e. not like There did them), I think it would add some realism to the game, actually. It simulates focusing on people instead of just hearing whatever's in 30 meters of you regardless of how much chatter there is. I would probably turn it on in croweded environments sometimes, and I hope they implement this (or something like it) in version 1.2.

Hated chat bubbles in TSO, hated them in There.com.. optional wouldn't hurt, but I definitely do not support this idea. There are WAY too many other things for LL to be focusing their attention on, IMO.
