Offline scripting utility, might be cool if SL is down!

Well, sometimes when SL goes down or my internet shuts off, I want to script or I was scripting and I wasnt able to finish :(

So, I think a downloadable program for offline scripting that gets updated every SL release should be in the downloads section. It could work just like scripting in SL, would check for errors and compile the script, then an option to upload the script into SL for you to test and use.

This is also a great thing for peace and quiet scripting :)

Also, an LSL interpreter that runs the code in a virtual environment would be spiffy. You could have number readouts for rotation, position, color, alpha, and all that, and inputs for other objects in the area, region data, a big button that says "touch", and all that sort of thing. ^_^

I would love something like this. Even a compiler would be great to see if theres any compile errors.

Having in-world responses would be awsome too like the touch button, and also maybe an input box to emulate chat.

Theres newview.exe -local, which almost works, but doesn't allow you to rez a prim for creating a script inside and crashes when you open the inventory. If that could be changed to simply let us create a new script, we'd have a working offline script-editor/compiler. Of course there'd be nothing to run the script, but editing and syntax checking is something.

You start out pretty rich in the local version. Too bad there is nothing to spend money on.

How often is SL down that you can't just sit tight for 3 hrs for an update, or, that these 3 hrs aren't during prime business hours when most people (since we're all adults here and should have college or jobs) should be doing their respective work/class.

Also, half the fun of scripting is having your object interact with the environment... and if there's no environment... what's the point?

I understand the need for being able to save a script, or compile a script, but, there's always notepad. If you're proficient with the language anyways, odds are your errors will be minimal and they will be caught as soon as you cut & paste your code back into SL when the grid's back up :-D

Perhaps we don't need a tool so much as an updated syntax file to load into our respective coding apps, so we can tell by color-coding and such whether we have errors in our scripts. I'm sure LL has that handy anyhow.
