You are chatting to a friend about a great new store you're in, and they say "tp me".

Oh how I wish there was a Teleport button in the IM window to send a tp request, instead of having to go via their profile.

It's the simple things....

You can. Communicate > Select your buddy's name from the list > Teleport...

I wish that when someone say "TP me" a tp request will be sent automatically. I should not have to do anything at all.

That's actually one click more than opening the profile from the IM-window and hit "teleport"... ;)

That would get confusing. What if you were talking about toilet paper? What if you don't want them to join you? Besides, that's what mapfind is for.

The criteria was that he wouldn't have to leave the IM window, not that it actually be easier to do it that way.

I agree, the IM window should have a Teleport button.

I wouldn't want this. Then anyone could come to wherever I am, without my ability to say no. Sure, there are lots of things you could do to minimize the many problems, but none are as simple as putting a TP button on the IM window.

The only way I'd approve of an auto "tp me" feature is if it's a new column of checkboxes in the Friends list, allowing specific friends to get an automatic TP by requesting it (via a button in my profile).

Evidently Baloo didn't read the post carefully.

In any case, there's an easier way: click on the person's name in the IM window, which brings up their profile. Click Teleport button, and OK the popup. Close the profile.

Putting the Teleport button in the IM window reduces this by 2 clicks.

Of course, the Teleport button wouldn't appear for a group IM window. This little complicatoin might be the reason it's not there already.

Heh... Insta-stalker mode. (^_^)

Actually, we kinda already have that. It's map permissions on the friends list. Most people don't like it. I give the majority of my friends list access though. I'm here to meet and spend time with people, not push them away. (^_^)y

Hmmm.... Thinking. (>_<;) ...

(3:30) IM Buddy: TP me

**Blue Pop Up
[IM Buddy is requesting a teleport to your location (Accept) (Decline)]

Maybe? (O.o)

What's wrong with KISS? IM windows are for instant messaging, it doesn't make sense to clutter that window down with a bunch of buttons.

Now while there's nothing horribly wrong with the idea, how do you justify it? Right off the bat, it's adding complexity, but to what benefit compared to where we're at now?

I did read the post carefully, you might want to re-read the thread. IM windows are simply tabs of the communicate window. While the profile method does work, it was 1) already mentioned and 2) rejected as not the answer by the original poster by the time I posted. Since the question was "how do I teleport someone without leaving the IM window," I gave the method to teleport someone without leaving that window (never mind that it actually takes an extra mouse movement and click to accomplish compared to the profile method).

Dunno... Just responding to the OP... I still prefer giving my friends map permissions. =^-^=

But the contacts window isn't, if you've detached it. :)

What it really should be is right-click on a user name and select "teleport". Contextual menus should be universal.

I made the comment as a joke. Just pointing out that even though it might be technically possible don't make it a good ideal, or worth the trouble. After all we are just talking about saving 2 clicks of the mouse by putting a tp button in the IM chat box.

It's convenient, and would be appreciated by most people, and wouldn't be very complicated. Your argument would also have denied the lovely new feature where we can get someone's profile from an IM window by clicking on it.

I like the idea mentioned above, allowing right-click on the person's name.

I'd also like to see clickable names in normal chat.

As it turns out, there's a JIRA. It's marked "Resolved", but isn't actually fixed. However, it looks like they'll be doing it.

This is only one instance of a collection of related issues, which are planned for a more general fix soon. We're not going to take this particular patch, but we are addressing the problem.
