Voice integration

I would like to have voice integration in SL in the near future. I know there are some workarounds like using Skype or teamspeak/ventrilo outside of SL to carry VoIP message, but it would be a good feature to have it built-in in the SL client.

I would like to use it for classes (especially language classes need it really).

TIA

I would be over the moon if only SL could support text-to-speech..

so often i miss people talking to me while building.. and yes i know i should have the history window open, but it takes up valuable view space ;)

A low quality audio stream that you can set the parcel audio URL to should work fine for a one-to-many solution.

Considering how they're struggling to keep up already, I don't think LL has close to enough bandwidth to host an individual audio relay for 30,000 concurrent users.

(Might be a good premium perk though :))

LOL

No, but I think it's a good idea for language learning if you want to learn to SPEAK instead only to READ and WRITE.

And: yes; typing is very tiring ;-)

I totally hear ya on the voice issue.
I too would overjoyed if Linden Labs would offer a voice solution - as I am the owner of English Village an island where language teachers and students can meet up...

i mean, wouldnt that be great if you could walk up to someone and slowely their voice conversation would become audible?

wow - that would TOTALLY change our SL... into an even more amazing educational environment...

-- but for now, I guess we'll have to do with 3rd party solutions..

some ideas that have worked for me is:

Programming a spining box with the skype logo painted on it - and when clicked automatically directs them to launch a web browser which in turn launches their skype and points them to my private skypecast...

- another client side solution is using a cool text to speach tool i found on Slexchange called: Dejavu - SL Speech Tools:

http://www.slexchange.com/modules.php?name=Marketplace&file=item&ItemID=185741

it really works great (once you invest in more audible voices)

anyhow
hope this helps

and if there are any lindens reading this - please...please give us voice!
thanks :)

Real voice only works if your voice matches your avatar. Would you want your pole dancer to sound like Bob Dole?

Better than real voice is synthetic voice, where the voice characteristics are part of the avatar profile.

Voice transcription, yes, if it's accurate enough. Actually transmitting audio end to end? Do that outside SL between people who want voice chat.
