I have no idea how difficult this would be to do, but would it be possible for attachments of 31 or less prims to be activated as physical?
I was wondering about this as I was making an attachment "vehicle", and certainly it would be a great feature for people who make horses and ridable avatars.
It might also be nice to have the collision point farther away from the avatar for certain outfits/avatar attachements.
Is this possible? If it is possible, can anyone see any negatives (keep in mind that enabling physics would be optional, just as it is with any other object)

i do not believe it would be technically a wise move, not before a better havok implementation at least

Do you mean that it might cause additional burden on the system? I think for the majority of applications, people will want the attachments to be phantom, and it would be subject to the same prim limitations of any physical object.
But there are some definite uses for physical attachments. I brought up "attachment vehicles", but I could also see uses for game play as well--a hockey stick would actually work, for example.

I would prefer NON-PHANTOM attachments... to be able to bang my mech sized avatar against a doorway too small... or wear a platform on my head and have my friends able to stand upon it. But.. Physical.. no.. And that's the problem.
The avatar isn't physical.. in fact, it's phantom. it's the AGENT that is physical and non-phantom.

Ah--so we could have non-phantom, but non-physical?
That sounds like a better idea, and one that would strain the server a little bit less.
And again, it would be an option. It would default to phantom/non-physical.

Sitting has little to do with whether something's physical or phantom. You can sit on non-physical phantom objects, so long as they have a sit target set.
Once upon a time you could sit on attached prims with a sit target set. This was disabled... people were building huge sim-crashing pyramids of avatars.
It would be nice if this could be turned back on again, with limits.
