when i reported a bug with the female avatar about 15 month ago i was told by a linden that they know this bug for over a year allready, and plan to fix it with the avatar update.

since then i was looking forward to that update, because i dont like the avatar mesh too much.

there is a ugly dent in the center of the female chest, the nose looks broken on most avatars, actually the whole face is not very smooth, the uv map has some weak points (the inside of the thighs for example) and the overall polygon count is pretty low (since the mesh is pretty old) and could be improved a lot in many regards. make it more round ;)

i suggest to just ADD a new mesh, so people who like their old avatar can keep it, and textures dont get useless. i think it would not have a huge impact on grid performance since it´s only a small info you need to handle (mesh 1 or mesh 2 + sliders)

you could even add a second avatar detail slider in the options to allow people with slower computers to select a lower lod for the new meshes

you could even use the same skeleton if you really want to (though it could be improved too)

i suggested it very often in different situations and to different people, but no word from the officials. i think this place may not get any facts either, but the old shape annoys me a lot, and i really hope someone at LL thinks about a new one...

thanks for reading

I'm sure they've been aware of the bug for something around 5 years now... Meethinks we're gonna get shadow rendering first. (=_=)y

My friend and I were discussing this as well. I think they should replace the current mannequins with mannequins that have double the poly count. That way current items will work the same. As far as the end user (you and I) are concerned, the amount of poly's would be adjustable via the client Avatar slider, so this shouldn't affect lag etc, unless the slider was on high.

I completely agree with you, the avatars are getting ancient.

If I were in business and there were no competitors then I need not update my product.
When there is a better product then I must update or lose business.

I'm sure LL have a plan there but it seems a low priority. There is an Av2 planned for another server platform but it hasn't appeared yet either. I really look forward to that one as I have Av meshes ready to go.

A new avatar would create a whole new economy as well.
