Currently, group land is limited by the ability to merge plots into one mass. If a group wants to organize their land, they have to figure out some big complicated scheme involving selling off land and getting money from different members. It makes sense to add an option to merge plots, if only according to the original owner of the plot, the person who deeded it to the group in the first place.
If we had an "auto consolidate" feature, to allow all adjoining plots of group land with the same original owner to be merged, that would speed things up immensely.

I'd rather not have land automatically consolidate, I prefer having the option - there are several situations where you might like to keep one portion of your land, sell another portion to a friend, or deed another portion to a group. What I would like actually, is a consolidation option that allows you to join pieces of land without having to release and reclaim any. I'd also like the option to release a portion of land without releasing the whole parcel. This becomes important when you start managing land for a group, because proceeds from releasing land end up distributed to all group members.
Once again, though, it's a relatively easy workaround to sell the land to a member for 1$ and them they can deed it back and join parcels at that point.

Oh no, I meant having the OPTION of consolidating it all in addition to having the option of merging two individual chunks. I agree, it shouldn't automatically merge.
