One item that continues to annoy me in SL is that the camera can only pan around at a very slow, fixed speed from the camera window, and the zooming has a definite max zoom-in and zoom-out.
Currently the max zoom-in is focused on the avatar itself, but there's no really good reason to limit the camera to a max zoom like this.
In all honesty you should be able to zoom in forever. Zooming in is identical to simply moving the camera forward into the center of the field of view, and zooming out is the same as moving the camera backwards.
Control of the speed of the camera should simply be relative to the cursor position and the center of the zoom/pan/rotate controls.
Click anywhere on the control to begin, and move the cursor around relative to the center of the control to increase or decrease speed, or reverse direction completely if the cursor crosses the center axis to the other side of the control.
This would be simple and fairly intuitive for anyone using the new camera controls for the first time, and would provide precision high and low speed camera movement around the world.
