Plum as a Training Sim

I have mentioned this a couple of times before, but its been lost in the mix of topics. So, I decided to bring it up as its own topic.

I would like to see Plum transformed into a training sim. Set up the space with training stations found on the Prelude Training Islands. Make it strictly for teaching skills, no cash bonuses for completing skills.

The reason for this is for a community service. Currently, once a new player leaves the training islands, they cant return. Many skip the lessons to be learned there. Most are anxious to get in world and hurry through the training or simply just skip it all together. Once in world, I see many wanting to return.

It would be nice for those that skipped it or need a refresher to be able to go through that training again. It would allow for self paced and self teaching of basic skills. The no pressure, hands on training would be valuable to many. Many dont want help right at first, or dont know what help they need. A self-help training area would be a great asset.

Plum is the ideal place. It is already set up with a welcome boardwalk and a training section would be an excellent addition. Plum gets little use as it is and it is in a good location.

The current welcome area in Ahern/Morris is usually pretty packed with people. It can be intimidating for a new player to be born into that environment. Plum might be a nice retreat/safe place for a new player to go. For those that miss the initial training, for what ever reason, they will have a place to learn, relearn, or hone their basic skills in a non-threatening manner.

There are user made teaching areas, and I applaud those efforts. I would just like to see Plum put to a good use with a familiar, Linden teaching area.

Thanks for any consideration in this matter.

This is an obvious YES.

When I see someone I referred log on, I immedeately IM them with two tips: One, how to answer me back by IM, and Two, do ALL the tutorial lessons. I tell them they get cash for each, and that they can't ever go back. I say take your time and get used to SL there before clicking on any map to teleport away.

If a mainland copy of the Orientation Island tutorials isn't made soon, I was planning on making a new account just to examine the stations and duplicate them in-world. (And maybe add a few more of my own design.)

Yes! Good idea.

I'd rather the Lindens dedicate a sim to learning and move all of the Linden run classes there, rather than taking up huge amounts of space with very simple tutorials.

A dedicated sim would be cool, but Plum is just sitting there, rarely used. It could be upgraded without bringing another sim online.

If you'd like, you can place something identical (if the Lindens would give us copies, which I doubt) or something similiar at the University of Second Life in Phobos. We have lots of space, and intend on creating many tutorials for people so that they can learn at their own place.

I think Loki's idea is fantastic. The intro tutorial stuff should be duplicated in Plum and left there permanently.

I support Loki's idea, its kind of sad to see Plum there all empty and stuff. And I think we need a dupe of the Orientation Island.

If LL doesn't do this, someone should.

If anyone's feeling energetic, they could make the tutorial rez-on-demand. In other words, instead of taking up a huge quantity of lateral space with the tutorials, you have something like a dispenser with arrows, and as you click through the arrows it rezes the tutorials in turn.

Rez-on-demand tutorials -- yep.
