It has slowly becomes obvious some people know how to side step scripted detection. It took me a while for me to learn how this is done. Once learned of course I don't wish to tell everyone about this, so I quietly send an email to Lindens explaining the situation and asking that the Lindens quietly fix it. I am basically told to use the JIRA. Naturally I don't wish to announce to the "world" that my products are flawed because of an LL oversight and here is how you do it, and I don't wish to harm my customers false (but semi-useful) sense of security and the privacy it provides either. But I have no choice. So here I am telling everyone here how to avoid scripted sensors and asking that you please vote to have this issue fixed by Linden Lab for the sake of my customers and other people (and my business). http://jira.secondlife.com/browse/SVC-125

Thank you for pointing this out. Despite the protests of people who wish to sell sensor-avoidance devices, this is clearly a bug - the position of an _avatar_ should be reported by a scan, not what they are sitting on.

Just tried it and half the time my avie scanner was reporting the proper position of my alt, so doesn't look like it even works reliably.
Eject, freeze, ban and tp home all work properly too. Security systems would be affected I guess since they can't detect, and even if they can, llUnsit would fail if the prim is on another parcel, so any orb that uses push instead of eject or tp home will fail.
More of a concern could be the fact that you can effectively hide under the land of someone's house, within chat range, and wouldn't really be seen (if you're with someone else, another little chevron is going to be hard to notice if they're right below you) and by default you can't cam under the land (and it won't show your nametag until you cam underground).

As a user of your products, Psyke, I voted. And I am very suspicious of that person who keeps trying to close the JIRA, to be honest.

Updated sensor functions
11-26-2007 08:04
Beeing in security devices myself, I found a way to detect these "undetectable avatars" This "bug" has been out there for quite a while. The relatively new llGetObjectDetails() adds to the use of the old sensor functions. Check it and you will see its use I make sim scanners that will see everyone in a sim, no matter how deep underground or offsetted sitting they are.
