I'd like to set up my own SL server that people could visit. Of course no owning land or purchasing (or any other changes) unless it was tied to the main world. But it would be nice to have your own world with custom physics and visuals.

Just $1,000 down, and $195 a month!

Try marrying a lot of wives, and have tons of children. I've heard that if you have the requisite number, when you die you get your own planet and all your children and wives become your servants.

Oh wait...you're talking about SecondLife, sorry!

If you mean a "grid" with many servers/sims, theres no plans to do this at all that I've heard of.

If you mean run a server/sim from your own house, they plan on *maybe* doing this in the future, the reason they haven't is not everyone has the hardware needed, i.e. T1 or greater speed connections and server hardware.

If you mean have LL run a server/sim for you that you can mess with for yourself, you can, see: http://secondlife.com/island/

I notice there's two sizes of islands -- 65.5K m2, and 262K m2. The adblurb only applied to the lesser type island. I'm assuming the larger island is four sims put together, at around $4K purchase and $800/month.

Anyone actually purchased a 262K m2 island? If so, must be "hidden" like Aleph (isn't really).

If I'm going to pay $4K and $800/month, I'd sure like to have more control over the terrain colors, sky features/climate, physics and other factors that current owners of sims have. Just a small point.
