It would be sweet if we could have the ability to format chat and instant message output a little with \n. Anyone agree?

It would have to be made clear that the text was a continuation of the previous line, for example indenting or something. Otherwise, yeah that could be cool. Would really help with script chat.

This would be nice. Kinda dissapointed we can't se something like Ctlr+Enter to get new lines either. But thats a different topic.

I endorse this idea/feature.

oh just for clarity i was thinking it would work something like, say the string to be output is: "blah1\nblah2"

the output would be:

<objectname> says: blah1
blah2

as opposed to:
<objectname> says: blah1
<objectname> says: blah2

as it currently works the only way to get a new line is to add enough spaces so that the next word wraps to the next line, but it seems nearly impossible to get it exactly right and line things up neatly in columns which is what i'd like to do.

The second line would have to be prefixed with your name or at least indented. Otherwise, someone could say:

"Who's a cute little monkey?\n<Ope Rand> says: I am!!!"

<Tiger Crossing> says: Who's a cute little monkey?
<Ope Rand> says: I am!!!

:)

lol! yeah good point :D

well then i guess the second version above would be just fine to get around that. doesnt really make much difference to me, i just want to be able to skip to the next line.

Yeah, it's all fun and games until somebody maps the following to a gesture hotkey:

\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n

edited to reflect a realistic number of newlines, based upon the chat character limitations. :D

That's a good deal more that the 128 newlines the chat will currently allow.

heh well spam is possible already without using newlines. i still think this would be more useful than it would be annoying.
