I would like to see a cloth engine implemented so that our clothes can flow naturallyj. Hey, I can ask, can't I? :D

Just wait, you'll see, in fifteen years, when our computers are run by photons instead of electrons, it'll be there.... and so will I :p

boy I'm bored eating dinner here, :o

Love Ingie

Ooo I'd like this, I've always wanted a free flowing cape and/or trench coat :)

These photon computers will be low cost right? :P

There was that recent development where some scientists froze a light particle for a few miliseconds and then sent it on its way all natural. This could lead to quantum computers, or something simular, so yay!

You can dream, all right. The fastest cloth simulation I've used takes five minutes on a top-end computer to calculate something as simple as the drape of a cloak.

Well, you don't really need to muck around with quantum physics for a photonic computer. A quantum computer wouldn't really help you all that much for running SL anyway.

The advantage of a photonic computer instead of an electronic computer is that you'd effectively do away with the problem of waste heat and could run chips far, far faster. Think of it as the difference between an LED and an incandescent light bulb. On the downside, we couldn't build chips as densely as we can with copper.

Either way, it's a long way off. :)

As for real-time cloth physics, get on it, Lindens. By 1.2. :)

It's not impossible, it's all about accuracy, much like rendering versus raytracing. We have some modest cloth simulation in the game already, your clothes and hair blow in the wind and your skirts move when you walk etc...

Those aren't collision-enabled, though, and they don't handle self-intersection.
