I have lost a number of vehicles recently, which different users have given back to me as they find them. This has occured when crossing SIMs, for example. I still have a tomato launching tank missing. We would need some sort of function for retrieving lost inventory. Sometimes I can see my property on the map, and find it that way, but most of the time I cannot.

I agree, but I can't think of a way to implement this myself off hand, maybe whenever you drag an item out into world a folder in your inventory labeled "In-World" lists the item?
Personaly I would rather have something on the Map where we could search or somehow see our objects.
Maybe in the Display drop down (I think thats what its called) have an option for "My Objects" and when selected all your objects in world are shown in blue across the map. Basicly same way the mini-map works but on a larger scale.

You could also have another option for the map(IE Objects for sale, those options)that would be called My Objects and it would show every objects of yours blue on the map. Or... Another Search Option for your objects, type in the name and it will tell you sim and coords(including Z) Or...! (a revision for Oz's idea) You could have a little checkbox(next to physics, phantom, etc.) called "Returnable" no mod perms dont affect this), if it's checked it will show that object in a folder when it's rezzed, so when you lose it, you can right click that object and select "Return" and that object will then dissapear from that folder and will be returned from your inventory. When it is rezzed again it will then go into that folder again unless "Returnable" was deselected. Or...!! You can have all of them! Or...!!!...well you get the point

I would LOVE this feature. There are countless times I am building, loading a box, setting out vendors or what ever, and when moving an item, for what ever dumb reason, the item I am trying to move "takes off" to God knows where. Could be in the tree across the street, could be inside a mountain.
We are expected to wait for it to be returned to our lost and found... but what if we need it now? Like a vendo? or a no copy vehicle?
Yesterday I boxed up a new design, and luckily I priced it correctly, before it took off out the front of my shop to heaven knows where. I searched the area for quite a while before calling a linden. The lost and found solution was all I got, so I asked him to please put it in as a request:
To be able to retrieve your things from your inventory.
Hopefully this will happen extremely soon, as it happens to me ALOT.

it just dawned on me how you would go about stealing the trolly. I spent some time looking at the trolly when it was there, so i could mod my motorcycle to ride the wires... All you would need to do is set up a ramp infront of the turn around box, so it would never collide (or maybe it's a sensor?) with it. And since the trolly didn't hug the cable in the vertical to well and there are no stops at the end the theft would be quite possible. Now Dore's road land is 1 min return which makes threading a motor cycle on the cables hard, so i would think Luna would be the easiest place to steal it from as it's land has no return. I would build a trolly if only i could make the two stops phantom. The best solution would be to add invisible prim stops to the end of the cables so it can't go past them. And regional checks that IM the owner of the trolly with the owner of what ever it is currently colliding with that is outside the approved regions. course this doesn't rule out stealing it as it crosses sim boundries...
