Currently, there is no way to determine if you have an incoming IM unless you have that horrible toolbar open.

I suggest one of the following:
  1. A Windows/OSX-style self-hiding menu, where it only pops up if you place the mouse pointer over it.
  2. The ability to move the IM button or indicator to that huge expanse of space in the upper menu.
  3. A key toggle to allow us to turn the toolbar on and off.

Obviously, the easiest to implement would be the key combo.

I endorse this idea/feature.

I wouldn't mind a auto-hide thingy.

I'd rather prefer some other way of being notified I get an IM though, maybe an icon, or the window auto-pops up or something.

The IM button is the only reason I don't turn off the toolbar. I'd much like it if there was some way to be told i got one as I do not have sound on either.
