Ghost image to show physical object buffer?

OK Now that I'm into the swing of things, I've been getting the hang of using physics on objects. This led me into making my nice plinko game. Well, the problem is, I made it a little too small and it didn't look so hot because of the buffers that are given to the outsides of physical items.

What I mean is, every physical object touching any other object doesn't exactly touch it because it leaves some space in between.

I can understand why you have this buffer in place, but it would be really nice to have the option (like a checkbox) of at least being able to see this buffer during object creation and placement. Like a transparent phantom image of the object at buffered size.

And while we're on this subject, how about the option to not have the buffer at all? The way to do this could either be to just get rid of it, or to give the view of the object an extended surface so that it matched with where the buffer was. (Basically, the same as the phantom idea above, except the phantom wouldn't be transparent.
I can understand using the buffer for objects that get incredibly small in size, and as far as I'm concerened, you should force it to stay intact if the object is past a certain minimum size (like say, .1 on any of the 3 axis, anything lower would force the object to keep the buffer)

Andrew I hear this is your area of expertise. What do you think? Or if any other Linden can comment on this, go right ahead, thanks! :D

Dave... the buffer is fromt he physics engine that drive the game. I have spoken to Andrew about it before christmas. He said that it was just a rough editing of the engine and that they will close that gap to next to nothing as the game moves on. It's just not "broken"so they won't fix it... they just need to take the time to tweak it.

From what I heard, lowering the buffer may cause a significant performance hit on the server side, and considering the performance issues on crowded servers (where lots of collisions are happening) this could cause a serious problem. But hopefully as the servers become more efficient, and the physics engine gets tweaked/updated, this buffer will be significantly lowered.

Personally, I eagerly await this. I have a pool table done, and a bowling alley and ski ball game in the works, and they all depend on this upgrade (pool is really tough when the ball doesn't fit through the hole :p).
