Fixing the SCAM on Rentals posing as sales

The simple way to fix this is to require that listings in the Sales section must have the "Land may be resold" permission granted. That will separate the SCAMS from the actual people selling land. The capacity to resell the land should be the determining factor and should not be allowed to be undermined in any Covenant.

Make it a TOS violation to falsely advertise this way and enforcement becomes easy.

Not a bad idea.

There is absolutely no guarantee that the land will be resellable because all it takes is for the sim owner to uncheck "Can resell" in the estate options at some point in the future.

Until there is an option that puts private sim land sales on the same level as mainland land sales, which would mean that the sim owner trades the ability to reposess or otherwise influence the land for money in the sale, all private sim land "sales" belong under land rentals.

I fully agree with Kitty on this one. While I believe it is right and fair that PI owners' listings show up in search, I just don't see why the results can't be sorted and/or filtered more sensibly, so that those who are looking specifically for private island based rental/sales, or specifically for mainland rental/sales, can clearly see which is which.

No, it isn't a scam in any sense of the word, it's simply that the results are not sorted in a way that would separate the two, and there is no option to filter one or the other from the search.

Surely there are a number of fields under the hood that could be used to identify a region as being privately owned, or Linden owned. That, of course, is an assumption on my part.

This is now fixed....for some reason they're not shouting about it, but you can select Mainland or Estate...

THANK you Paul for pointing that out. This is such a simple, yet hugely significant development!

OMG!

There are at least 20 pages (lost count) of 16sqm ad spaces for sale, many close to or at 10,000L$.

There are still some places saying "for rent" in the mainland category. I really hope that's a TOS violation.

I wonder why they didn't put this in the updates list for the newest version? Did I miss it, or are they trying to make this a "secret" update because they are scared of losing money?

It's not a ToS violation to rent mainland property to other parties. It is quite common, and quite legal.

And yes, the 16m plots for upwards of $L10,000. I think that really truly shows what a pathetic disaster mainland real estate is right now.

C'mon....They don't ACTUALLY sell for that. They are just listed at that asking price. If you want those particular parcels bad enough, for example if they are bordering on your property and annoying you, then that's what you must pay, I suppose. But there are plenty of 16m2 parcels at $L275-500... some are even roadside!

By the way, a good clue is if you go there, and the parcel is empty and unused... that is more likely to be a legitimate asking price. If you go there and there are big rotating signs sky-high, that's just someone listing the land they own while its in use. In other words, they aren't seriously interested in parting with it at a reasonable price. They are just hoping to catch a sucker, or, who knows, maybe they are just bored.

PS THANK YOU LL for adding this feature. It makes my life easier!
