Based on a Live Help conversation the other day I would like to propose a feature whereby when a resident is banned from a parcel or estate, all the objects they own on that parcel or estate are automatically returned to them.

This would a) make it much easier to prevent griefing (just ban the griefer and anything they've placed or fired at peole is gone), and b) prevent griefing by landowners (banning people from land where they've left stuff they own, so they can't pick it up).

You have banned John Griefer from your land. There are still 421 objects owned by this resident present on this parcel. What do you want to do?

This could possibly harm the "grid" during attacks. Say you ban all non-paying customers, and one of them releases a grey goo attack (or something similar that is unforeseeable). All those objects then start being returned, causing asset-overload on the DB server. Just a thought.

I think in 1.13, parcel owners will have the ability to block objects from entering a parcel. So if you banned a user, they could not enter the parcel (on a vehicle or not) and then would not be able to rez an object and have it move onto your parcel (eg: grey goo). I believe that is the solution you might be looking for.

* Parcel owners can block objects from entering their parcels

Couple this with the shortest autoreturn (10 minutes in the future), and you're set.

The Live Help issue though was the other way round - a user felt that her objects had been "stolen" because she had placed them to help with a build, and then been banned from the land, making it impossible for her to return to the area and pick them up.

As for returning 451 pieces of grey goo - well, yes, that would create asset lag but wouldn't that be better than the crash the grey goo would have created anyway by, um, being grey goo? :)

I agree with Yumi on this proposal, and here's my thoughts:
- The feature should be off by default, activated by a check box on the Ban tab in the About Land dialog (Something like: "Return objects owned by banned users".)
- Suspend functions or the like to limit amount of lag caused by returning a large number of objects should be on the system side anyway. And grey goo is no longer what it used to be... You can manually return thousands of objects the way it works today, so this feature would not cause any other source of lag.
- Implementing this feature would in part enable land owners to do what is desired with LSL functions (alas, in more than 4 different proposals all in fact wanting just the same). By using the llAddToLandBanList function you could for instance ban an expired tenant temporarily to have all his/her objects returned to them.

I can't find this in the Feature Voting system. I think it should be there :)
