Object Privacy

With the last patch they included the location inworld via SLURL, of objects you own that IM or give people things. I think this is a great step towards anti-griefing. Now people can't anonymously just give you things. You're accountable by having an object location described so you can go investigate if you're being spammed by... whatever.

However I like the contents of my objects to remain secretive. Prior to the patch people with networked vendors, and other similar objects had secrecy through obscurity. That is, people couldn't hunt down your object and look at it's every single piece of inventory.

I've come up with a new feature proposal on SLs JIRA. What it basically does is makes objects people don't own, are the same group as, or don't share modify rights on NOT list inventory. This would save on server bandwith, and keep your inventory items secretive while being accountable with the location of them.

If you think this is a swell idea, please go there, log in and vote on it. Always eager to hear any sort of feedback on this.

Just curious...WHY is it important that your object inventory be secret? I've never minded that persons see everything in one of my vendors...or anything else I have that's on publically accessable land.

To ask the other side of the coin -

Why is it important that its not private?

Why is the defualt that stuff on non comercial land must be public information?

People will tell me thats how the veiwer works.. Okay I get that part.

But I want another reason why people need to know. Becuase if there isnt one, why do people need to justify wanting their objects on their non-comercial land being private?

Its one thing to say I cant get the privacy becuase it wont work, its another thing to say I dont deserve that privacy. And its even worse to say Im not even allowed to think I should have it.

To me, the basic idea is-

Its my stuff, Its my land. I dont want some bot snooping it. Its within my right to say that. If I start wanting to make changes that will ruin SL, then people can complain. But those basic statements should be within my perogative.
