I really hate to post this since it *could* spark abuse before it is (hopefully) fixed, but here goes.
At this point in time if you create an object using prims you are afforded security in many forms. The one Im most interested in it if you make an item for sale. If I buy it, it can be set up so I cannot sell it. Correct me if I'm wrong but I believe I also cannot give a copy of it to anyone.
My concern is clothing files (not textures but the tee shirt icon files) are NOT protected. If I make an item and one person purchases it they could in theory give it away to everyone in game with no further benefit to me.
I think this is highly unfair to (mesh) clothing makers. I trust that it is not being exploited at this time but when we go live I think there is a high potential for it to be a problem. It really takes away the desire to continue making clothes if the profit margin will be low due to abuses.
I try to keep my prices reasonable so keep a steady flow of customers but if this becomes a problem it simply wont be worth it to spend the time off hours making things.
I would really appreciate (optional) controls on these files to either disallow distribution or have distribution incur cost. "Optional" is really important as I and others do also give away items.

Considering how difficult it is to pull off extremely hard textures (like the Neo one I'm wearing..)

Not just for clothing makers, you know. Textures of all kinds definitely need No Copy/No Modify options. Besides, a "clothing file" as you put it is just a regular texture file, but is positioned just the right way when applied to an av's body.

You can apply your texture to a prim and sell the prim for the buyer to shape into their shape for their use. Not true for clothing files. Yes and getting it "just so" can be a lot of work.... worthy of protections.

Mis, if the object with a texture is set to allow the owner (purchaser) to modify it into whatever shape they want, then said owner/purchaser can get the texture out of it.
So yeah, the control needs to be added to all textures.

this is something I want to see too.
I'm making outfits for my *ahem* adult store, and want them to be "Exclusives"...
no point designing clothes if every body has the same thing, right?
at the moment I'm not selling any because of this bug/flaw in the textures.
Please consider a no-copy option for clothes / textures

I'm definitely in favor of adding the option.. while it's neat that we can share, the fact that people put so much effort into their objects must surely lead to frustration when one person has bought the item and then gives copies to friends.

i actually posted in another thread about script security... but one thing i'd like above and beyond just "edit/no-edit", is some sort of global variables list. some scripts i create use vector "constants" to determine their motion (like sliding doors). however, that means they'll only move a certain direction. however, if my buyer were to rotate the door, it would still move in the original direction. with editable global variables, they could simply change the vector from <0, .15, 0> to <.15, 0, 0>, and the door would slide normally.
