To the person constructing the large race course in the vehicle sims...
Please please please make those signs "phantom". My vehicles keep getting caught up in them, and some are quite large. I can't cross the race course without getting stuck.

I second this! All those little markers and signs present a real hazard. They have notches that just love to hook onto a wingtip or a wheel and not let go until you're spun completely around.
Make them phantom, please. |

...The floating ones at least. Tall vehicles, or ones that hover high, HIT them.
Oh, and I wouldn't mind some alpha-ed panels along the sides of the suspension bridge so we don't hit the guy wires. I mean, if they stick things on them so that birds don't collide with the wires, some invisible walls would be sure to help US. ![]() _____________________

I have phantomized all the floating signs.
Since there are appx. 10,000 delineators and my mouse hand is very tired, I'll revisit that issue in a few days. In the meantime, try getting a group together and racing either the green (easy) or blue (intermediate) courses. Both work for either hoverboards or motorcycles. Let me know what you think. |

I like the courses, John! But unless you have a very narrow vehicle or one without any protrusions, the markers and arrow signs *will* catch you. There are some nice valleys that are no longer passable because of clusters of signs in the middle of them.
Thanks for all your work! It's looking good. I'd help you phantomize all of them myself, but I don't have the Linden Power (thunder echoes). ![]() |

I think the signs on the ground should NOT be phantom. Part of the challenge is not getting hung up on them. Phantomize them and you might as well delete them altogether, IMO.
I can get through the course alright, at a decent speed, without getting snagged. If you cannot possibly run the course without getting snagged all the time, I would suggest modifying the angular motor parameters on your vehicle. _____________________

I agree with Huns about the signs on the ground. Non-phantom will add challenge the the land course and prevent any cheating of cutting corners. But, everything in the sky should be phantom.

You can't make vehicles, or anything an avatar is sitting on, phantom since 1.1. This caused me to have to make some changes to my Lindenworld ride since that was how the car rose up into the building. After 1.1 it just slammed the rider into the ceiling. Luckily, I had a catch-all llSetPos so it did eventually make it.
Thankfully, I was never sued for whiplash... As for the course markers, having them solid is a bit too much challenge, at least with their current placement. And if you are going for realism, then at the speeds some of the vehicles there go, they should be flattened! Think of phantom posts as the type that have a spring at the bottom so you can drive over them. If there was some way to register collision with a phantom object, you could leave them phantom, but register each hit with a score penalty... _____________________

Huns and Loki, dodging the markers is only a challenge when it's possible to dodge them. Only small, narrow vehicles without any protrusions can pass through or across these courses without getting hung up. I'd rather not limit myself to building motorcycles and hoverboards.
The purpose of the markers is to indicate the course, but they prevent me and other people from simply driving across the sim. They really have to be phantom. |

Well I have discovered lastnight, That if you set phantom after an AV sits, the vehicle does go phantom, but the av doesn't. It still might be plausable for some with large protruding object type vehicles to navigate ok through the courses.

I guess the purpose of the course is the issue then. If its a time trial or race, phantom markers that record your presence near them would be more appropriate, I suppose. I do see your point about craft design, I am definately flexible on this issue.
I used to love the ring race in Rizel, that was a test of flying skill where you had to go through the ring. I guess I was applying that aspect to ground craft in this issue. |
