That's my suggestion. I don't think I'm alone.
You don't have to give it to the individual (though that would be so lovely) but it would be nice if the group creator could stop spam before it begins.

I would vote for that. Use the secondlife issue tracker stickied at the top of the forum and request it if it hasn't been requested already.

I'll second that, I'm tired of spam that says so-and-so has left the session when I didn't even know they were in it in the first place.

It would be nice to be able to mute groups when I'm in a meeting or something.

Probably asking for way too much, but

.

* A group ability that indicates who can start a session; once one is in progress anyone can just join in
* A personal option to see/ignore group IMs, much like the current receive notices option (which doesn't seem to reliably work anymore)
* A global option similar to "Set Busy" which hides all group IMs while active

I love the people who make a big announcement - something that they obviously want some feedback on-

Then the Leave the session immediately so they cant hear any of it.

How about we just get rid of those messages OPENING my group chat window? There have been so many times I log in, ooh! IM! "XXX YYY has left this session." WTF?

when I log in or to hear the corresponding sound when the group in question doesn't have focus (meaning focus is in another group tab or other floater).

I don't know how anyone can bear it.

I added my vote to a previous proposal with already 200 votes/58 voters :
Prop: 2557 - "Joe Sombody, has left this session" needs to go

I'm gonna try to redirect every similar forum request to it.
