"Last online" field in profile

Many text-only online worlds such as MUCKs have a "last on" command which shows you the date and time at which someone last logged in and logged out. Wouldn't it be nice to have something similar in SL?

It'd probably make the most sense to put it as a field in the profile.

since people asked for stealth mode to show as offline...wouldn't it be nice not to have that?

I don't really see the problem. If you can't see a user's online status then you obviously shouldn't see the "last on" times either - but if you can, then you should.

profiles are publically viewable (online status hidden or not), he wants this on the public profile

it defeats the purpose of stealth

Yes, "he", namely I, want it on the public profile, just like the online status. But it would be hidden along with the online status in stealth mode. I still don't see a problem.

It's technically doable, and still have it compliant with the new privacy features. The only question would be whether there is enough demand for it to warrant the development/implementation costs. The only way to know this is to put it in the FVT and see how many votes it accumulates.

If it hid with the online status, great, go for it. If it was visible anytime, it would be no. :)

Actually, there is one problem. If the field is hidden, then the viewer will know he/she it blocked from viewing target's online status. Just like ban feature in IM, the viewer shouldn't know whether or not he/she is blocked from viewing that status.

Hmm... I wouldn't see that as a problem personally, but I could see why some would find it concerning. It doesn't seem like something that's impossible to get around... for example, it could be set up to show misleading information rather than no information. Perhaps the time before last someone logged on, or even a completely bogus date. Any suggestions?

At any rate, I've put it up in the FVT:

How about just for friends?
The way Trillian records "last online" was by the last time I was able to see them online. So, in terms of SL, if the date/time is recored then the friend blocks you from seeing their online status the date/time of last known online status wouldn't change.
Anybody who you can't see the online status of, or who never logged on after the system was started would have a blank.
If you wanted to be trickey, you could have it record dates and times of people you see inworld, you wouldn't know when they last signed on or off, but you'd have a date and time you last saw them.

It's completely passive and deals only with observational information that one could write down on a piece of paper.

If it just shows "last logoff" without any indication of whether they've logged on since then it wouldn't cause a problem, and it would still let you know if they'd been on in the past few days, weeks, or whatever.

Good call. This is probably the simplest solution.

This exists, you just have to find a group you're both in, and find their name. It shows the last time they were online.

I think that what you want is for it to show up in your friends list, am I right?

Salkin,

I downloaded a seperate "friends-online" utility program from the internet, which (after you login with it to SL) will show you which of your friends are currently online regardless of any on-line visability settings you have set in the SL-viewer.

It will show the time your friends have been online since either you did start this program or their latest logon.
Also it keeps track of the history of those friends: when they went online or offline. The data will kept being updated as long as you leave this programm running.

You need to install this program on your computer and then login using your SL name and password.

I don't have the URL onhand right now, but if you want this link let me know or IM me inworld or use Google to search for" 'secondlfie "friends online" '

Sam.

Well, that's a little awkward, though. Especially if you don't already have any groups in common; I shouldn't have to join a group just to see a simple piece of information like that.

Hrm, well, I was thinking in the profile window. I don't see any harm in showing it for non-friends, as long as it's done the way that was suggested earlier in the thread (show logoff time only).

Does it also require that they have it installed?

Thanks, that sounds interesting. However, I'm mainly after getting the feature implemented within the main SL viewer/infrastructure right now.

If that is the case, then I think it look kinda of glitch more than feature. I believe those who don't want their friend to see their online status, won't like it much?
