I'm all for the real estate mogul types buying and reselling First land from people who want to sell it. It's a win win for both parties and should not be regulated (my opinion at least). The problem lies when the ubiquitous "FOR SALE" signs that pop up all over the sim making the whole land look like a giant advertising nightmare. In the RW we have regulations on billboard heights, size, locations, etc. so why not in SL? New first land owners should have a positive experience with their first land - not overreaching vistas of For Sale land signs. It will both improve the quality of the user experience and the value of land. Here are some of my proposals in no particular order. I think if any of these were implemented it would benefit everyone. Up for discussion:
Prop 1) Create a "Land For Sale" viewer function that includes the 3-d Billboard signs. Just as we have the option to view the different color coded land on and off, we should have the option to turn these billboards on and off. It would greatly help those who are looking to buy land AND those who do not. Obviously Land sellers would go nuts over this one, but it is better than a proposal to do away with the signs all together. If every seller is on the same playing field it should not affect land sales and improve the quality of SL.
Prop 2) Limit size and number of billboards per 512 area. IE, one 1x1x1 sign per 512 for example. If someone wants to buy the land, they will take a look at the boundaries. They will turn on the color coated land view. This will enable First Land owners and existing land owners to screen out these signs if they wish with landscaping, walls etc. You can't regulate taste, but you can regulate size.
Prop 3) Limit duration of BIG billboard signs. Obviously land owners have a right to advertise their land, so this one is skewed in their favor. Perhaps they could be allowed to advertise as big and awful as they want for a month, then they have to default to the regulated billboard size. Don't know how or if that can be implemented though.
In the end, any of these will benefit the overall SL experience. Am I out of line on this one?
