Sorry, but try it every which way I can, I just cannot reconcile the Communicate dialogue with the way it used to be. To me, "IM" and "Friends list" are 2 entirely separate functions.
IM is something I like to keep open if I'm in several at one time, and I have it as a long shallow horizontal box so I can see most or all of the tabs at once.
Friends list is something I never keep open but just click on every now and again to see who is online. The best way for that is a long narrow vertical box so I can see as many friends in the list at once.
The bottom line is, to see all your IM tabs and all your friends online, needs 2 different shapes of box.
I would like the Friends list to be restored as a separate button. Make the other buttons slightly less wide and it can easily be done.

Sounds like you need Nicholaz's viewer: http://nicholaz-beresford.blogspot.comVoice and non-voice clients with available UI replacements to fix the screw up you are having frustration with.

Thanks for that Draco - sadly I'm a Mac user (why don't I FEEL sad?), though maybe there will be a iNicholaz before long?
