Ok. I am sure this has been brought up before (unless I'm the only one who has thought of this.. which I highly doubt)..
Anyways, I was thinking again on ideas and came up with another. Lindens auction RL and SL money for land. What about maybe auctioning or even setting a set rate to allow folks to change their Last name? I think it has potential as many get married in-game and want to show such a marriage by way of the same last name.
I realize this makes it hard since there are beta's that I know would object to such a thing (even after beta people), but what is the harm done to it for such a thing as marriage in-game? Lindens would make money for the services rendered and the players would get what they wanted.
To keep it from being abused, a player could only change their name a certain number of times in a RL year. And having to pay for it with RL would also cut down on the amount of abusiveness that would have potential for.
Thoughts?

I'd agree to this if it were no more than once a year, and paid in a fairly sizeable amount of linden dollars (say L$5,000).
The change should come with an official post on the forums to report the change, and in-game Dialog-Click-OK notification to all players who have a calling card for that person.
Also first names should not be changed, unless the player requests changing from a "messed up" name to a more "normalized" name with the following rules: - first letter can be changed from lower-case to upper-case - non-first letters lower-cased - l33t sp34k numbers changed to corresponding letters - name must be easily recognized as similar to the previous name (ie slight spelling adjustments)
This is all of course assuming that our identities are keyed in the database instead of by name for all the objects we own/created. I assume they are (otherwise what are the AV keys for). Hopefully if the database is fully normalized, it should only require changing one field in one record.

I wouldn't mind seeing either of these/both done. I think there should however be a way to pay it in L$.
