BETTER PROFILE with BETTER THINGS! (SEE THE DEMO PIC)

Okay,

I was in the game looking at my profile. Its old and it could be improved.
So i went to photoshop and i made a demo of what a good profile should look.
I addes some features that is not in sl, maybe one day it could be.

SEE PIC:

1) "Friends"
- A place to name your friends up to 10 friends, and display 1 picture of each one.

2) "Biz"
- tons of people use the "picks" to advertise their business, well why not have a "Business tab" where you can put all your business locations if you have any and pictures of them and a lil history of your business and what it is.

3) "Partner"
A better version, this will let a tab just for your loved ones, you can put 5 pictures, of weddings and such things to display to anyone who looks at your inventory, as well as display the date you were married, and for how many days.

4) "First Life"
This will be the same as the old profile in SL would be, but will let user store up to 5 pictures instead of 1 rl picture.

5) "Ratings"
New categories and a new "Bar Chart" will elimate the numbers off your profile. So it will just give you a bar on the amount of people who voted. Instead of displaying numbers.

6) "About" will be the same thing as in the old one.

7) "Awards"
Every year you stay in second life it will give you a star. And also gives stars for LL Based events such as "Lifetime accounts" and winning of events.

" FIND "
Instead of "Map" this would be find, this would be the same function as the "Map" but will have a choice to let people know where your at, or to turn it off.

9) "pictures"
where you can put some pictures of yourself as well as others.

10) "Fav Places"
Where you can post your favorite places in second life, where you usually hang out and give a short description of the place.


This is just an idea, but i like the new features, i want to know your opinion, what could be added?

look good so far, now i spose it all depend on the asset server and how it will increase its load

I dont know, it seems nice enough. Just a bit too "busy". Profiles are quick access to a persons info. Not an autobiography. Most of that info could be taken out and still be an effective. I admit the current may not be the best, but nothing quite that much.

However a good suggestion. I would recommend taking out the following numbers:
1 (Wayyy too laggy and making profiles that much longer to load up)
3 (Only have one partner, and make it a seperate tab to go to)
4 (Keep it at one pic, maybe 2)
9 (Hell no, thats a bit too many pics)


I do enjoy your liking of pictures in profiles, but the reason were only allowed 2 pics is so it doesnt take so long to load. Even if theyre in seperate tabs it will still be a pain just to see someones profle. Though I do like these ides:

2 (Good way to advertise)
5 (Good way to show your votes, but perhaps you can make it more specific. Most people dont have many negative votes)
7 (Now this is my favorite idea. This can also be a way for Linden to give away awards as prizes, or just for helping them out. That could get real creative)

Thats pretty much my 10 cents on the subject.

I don't think it's any busier than the current version. I really like the "control panel" look and feel that Wuvme designed. I also really like the scrolling arrows to allow for multiple photos. (Would be nice to have on first life tab, as well.)

I like the current profile setup the way it is. I look at profiles as often as possible, I love to see what people put in them. But, as it is now, people are having problems with the profiles loading quickly. Sometimes they are blank and most of the time the pics take fordamnever to show up.

Although a prettier more robust profile system would be nice, I just don't think we need any more lag.

need an "In Bed" rating catagory.

I think it'd be cool wuv cuz it'd give you a much better feel about the person than the current version. I think your partner Double D could use a bit more description as well.

Maybe get the Lindens to start accepting serious proposals for the ratings/profile makeover?

Even if it's just for ideas, it's worth a shot.

I posted a thread a while back concerning seeing people's ideas for user interfaces displayed; Wuvme's picture is a good example of just the sort of thing I was hoping to see.

I don't see how your idea is any better than the current rating system?

creativity, appearance, etc. can be abused like they are now.

and stars for each year in SL? why when you can see the date of start for players? Wouldn't it just keep the FIC myth going?

personally spekain i love these ideas! i want to be able to add more pics for friends and even rl, and of just me! im a snapshot whore!!! i sooooooooo think we need ALL of these added!!!

Ya know... you could create your own "profile cube" or what have you with the building and scripting tools in SL. Make 'em customizable and sell them or give them away. They could be attached or could use the "floating pets" script to follow your AV around or well, use your imagination. I would use notecards to display most of the information, but you could make a prim based interface to navigate to the different sections.

Just a thought, and hey, who knows, you might have fun and learn a lot while trying to do something like that.

Its a good start to a concept, you need to add the groups section as well as the notes page. I can see if you have more than 10 friends there being alot of fighting why they didnt make the top 10 though, i think that the biz tab could be kept in the picks tab, since most people used picks to post pictures of themselves at another location ect and now you have another tab of this, and if you want to put history about your business then there is always the normal text in the profile for this other than the description for the land etc. and thinking about it the partner tab could also go in pics, with the date kept on the front as usual, im not sure now many people keep a track how many days they have been partnered unless they only stay partners for days. As long as you can add text info to the pics tab it could be very versatile.

As for the possibility to be invisible, i dont really want to edit my profile to get to that, i'd like a tickbox on the login screen, "login as invisible" also in the drop down menu under Set as Away etc, Set as Invisible.

As far as the additional pictures goes I could see this happening in a major update to SL. I would have to agree about the load and such with having additional pictures. To be honest though I don't know how it would be like unless we actually could try it. I provided my thoughts below.

1. Ability to disable people tracking you and such is probably a pretty common requested feature and I am for this.

2. Friends tab to put all your snaps and special notes for your friends rather than using up the limited "Picks" tab since adding friends seems to be a common trend seen in profiles picks. I would like this also.

3. The splitting up of businesses and general places is a good idea. But I am not sure how easily this will roll in for LL to implement. Otherwise, keep "Picks" for locations and businesses but increase the limit. Easier said than done though.

4. As for bar chart ratings. Bar charts work off a minimum to maximum set value if I'm not mistaken. If there is a maximum limit to ratings then sure, go for it. I myself like numbers for some reason. :/ There could always could be both.

5. Rewards should be more specialized. Such as, if you teach classes for helping others for a certain period of time then reward them for that. Education is important and their instructors should not be ignored for this. Another example would be like one for clothing designers. It's a lot of hard work to make all that clothing and if you do it for so long you should be rewarded for design excellence and such. /me glares at wuvme Maybe design excellence could be based off product rating? Hrm.

Having specialized rewards may inspire someone to do the same for themselves to achieve this special reward. Hey, long term goals.

Nice job on the concept wuvme. I always enjoy seeing how people would love to improve in areas like this and providing a visual like you did is even cooler.
