How about say ya got around 300 textures or so in various folders and you remember the name but can't find it?

A find feature would be cool :-)

Had to make a new thread eh? :p

You could make a find feature yourself though, if you just drag and drop every texture into an object... :p

yea but objects only hold 44 things in their inventory :-) not to great :-)

And I didn't want to tread all over the other inventory suggestion, as suggestions within thread suggestions have a higher chance of being overlooked :-)

Charlie; A find feature would be great!

I suggested a preview of texures a while back I think "find" would also be extreamly helpful.

Not to mention adding a "Choose Multi" for moving or deleting would be nice too.

Any who yup Find would be great!

Keeping up with inventory is a problem. I try to be organized and create numerous subfolders and name everything proper, but it is a hassle to get to my stuff in the subfolders even when I know where it is. FIND would be great for bringing up stuff quickly.

Another alternative method for fishing through all the textures -- what if you could just hit spacebar or an arrow onscreen to page through textures in a specific folder?

(edit: just realized that I might not have been completely clear. To page through the textures, I meant pull one up onscreen, then page through the next bunch so you don't have to keep opening/killing texture windows to find the one that you want. This would also be helpful if you're like me and frequently forget what a specific texture is called)

does everyone know about the create a new window trick when dealing with the inventory? in the inventory window, there is a command for a new window in the pulldown menu. so just create new window and have the folder you are sticking stuff in open in one of them, and the stuff you are moving up in the other.

oh and a find command would be nice, that is for damn sure.

Ah, as far as texture previewing and browsing, how about a feature like PSP has where you can get a full screen or even a window of a page of thumbnails of all the textures in a givin directory.

We could have this and make those thumbnails selectable just as the file is in inventory.

A find for inventory would be great. One thing you can do with all your textures is to name them so that the first part of the name describes what kind of texture it is, like "stone-rockwall" or "pattern-paisley" or "wood-oldplanks." Since when you go browsing for a texture you know what category you're looking for it makes finding stuff in the list a lot faster. If you can't remember the name you'll only have to look through a dozen instead of a hundred.

Seems like thumbnails would be pretty easily doable since the thumbnailing and caching would all be client-side.

There is an inventory searching script out there... of course real features are always better than scripts.
