Join Groups w/o Getting Group IMs or Notices

It's great to have a list of groups in your profile to give people a better idea of who you are. However, I end up leaving a lot of groups because I can't stand getting IMs from them like "Can anyone tp me?" and "George Washington has left this session".

I also get annoyed at some clubs that invite their group members to their pseudo-events three times a day.

It would be great if group profiles had a "Receive Group IMs" check box and a "Receive Group Notices" check box. Then people could clear the check boxes if they didn't want IMs or notices from a particular group.

I agree, however I know that occationally something comes up that everyone has to know about.
Say I have a product and a group for everyone that buys that product (there are a few groups like this already, I'm in at least 3) and people turn off IMs and notices as to not get distracted by the nothing.

But lets say I find a horrible bug in my item and I want to tell everyone. How do I get to those people that turned off IMs and notices?

I should have an option to override their option as a group owner. Obviously, if its overused people will leave as if both options didn't exist.

Basically the "Recieve IMs" and "Recieve IMs from moderator only" kind of thing that you see on forums.

I added my vote to a similar proposal, it already has 200 votes/58 voters.
Prop: 2557 - "Joe Sombody, has left this session" needs to go

You need to put it in jira.

I'd vote for this one too, but I am not sure how to write a jira proposal. I would also try to get my large group to vote for it too.

We REALLY need:
  1. options to get group IM, or not (MANY people want this)
  2. options to get group Notices AND Proposals, or not
  3. an owner option to turn this off on a specific notice/proposal
The end of the "so and so has left this session" message, or at least confine it to an open IM window only. If I have closed or minimized the IM window, I don't want to see it. I especially don't want to be interrupted by it when it belongs to the tail end of an IM session I didn't see.

These things would vastly improve the group experience and also help a lot of groups keep their members.

Thanks.

I approve of this feature and or product.

For a long time I've wanted the ability to mute group sessions. i find them really annoying. For a long time i have also wanted the sessions to change into live IRC style chat, so that people don't disturb the whole group just to say "hi". We would have the option to be in the session or not.

Gave it four votes. Tonight we all spammed the hell out of each other closing the group IM on a group with over 3,000 members. Quite painful.

I'd like to add a request for a group owner to disable "can post to group chat" for given ranks. it would really help mitigate group-spammers if we could have the ability to grant or revoke "speech" rights.

Likewise.. it would be nice to allow an open enrollment group to be able to BAN a name from joining the group once kicked out.

hehe this is another thing i found that EverQuest 2 has for their guild rank features. You can prevent specific ranks from using the guild chat or listening to it. Both 2 different options. But yea, EQ2 probably has the most advanced guild set up ever.
