Ok, this has been mentioned before, but I would like to add talk about it again..

I would like to see an offline builder/texture/appearance toolset.

Consider it a very small mock up of SL that allows you to edit land, build buildings and objects, texture them, and work on your appearance while not connected to SL.

You could then upload all of said things to SL when you log in (with appropriate charges for doing so).

I know that the limited hours are only for now and that it will grow - but limited hours are not why I would like to be able to do this.

Sometimes we just dont want to be online. Sometimes it's easier to be sitting at home, listening to music and working on our *whatevers* without having to be logged in, subject to visitors or chat or IM's or server lags. SL requires alot of resources and for many (even with newer computers) trying to build and find you need a particular texture or whatnot and have to go scouring the web for it is a hassle - usually requiring that one log out of SL, find it, log back in, and then apply - only to repeat the process if it isnt just right.

And remember that if you are tweaking a texture in something like Adobe Photoshop - well that's a resource hog all and by itself - trying to run it on the fly with SL just is a big headache.

Also - if the people who desired to work quietly were not online because they *had* to be - then that would free up a lot of server resources for the remainder - less lag and server strains.

And finally - if you want to produce something and have it be a genuine surprise - to unveil for the whole community, well what better way than to build the sucker offline and then have a party for the unveiling when it is done to your complete satisfaction - sight unseen prior to.

anyone have thoughts on this?

a note

all of the things could be uploaded - but your land would have to be re-edited.

the editing of the land offline would just be to give you a chance to look at design ideas for hills and such as they would impact upon your buildings.

thank you.

Ok, it took some digging but I read the Linden reply to this issue.

Thank you guys (dont want to have you have to retype it), I can well imagine that it will take time to put something like this together - and fully appreciate that it's a project that needs wait till SL it'self is more where you want it to be.

Like all my feature requests, I dont wish to sound as if I'm in a hurry - I hope to be with SL for a long time to come - patience *is* rewared eventually :)

but....DANG it would be soooooooo cool :)
